A tragic incident occurred in Sheopur, Madhya Pradesh, where a man died and his son was reported to be in critical condition after consuming watermelon. The victim has been identified as 43-year-old Indra Kumar Parihar, a resident of Shajapur district who worked as a driver in Sheopur. He lived with his family in a rented house.

Family members stated that both Indra Kumar and his 21-year-old son, Vinod, began feeling unwell on the night of May 14, 2026. On the morning of May 15, they consumed watermelon at home. Shortly thereafter, their health significantly worsened, prompting family members to take immediate action.

Concerned for their well-being, the family rushed both father and son to the Sheopur district hospital. Upon arrival, their condition was assessed, and doctors determined that Indra Kumar required immediate transfer to Kota due to the severity of his condition. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his illness while en route. Vinod, however, remains under medical care and is reported to be in a critical state.

Indra Kumar Parihar leaves behind his wife, Sangeeta, as well as sons Vinod, Raja, and Deva, along with a relative named Radhika who resided with the family. The loss has impacted the entire family profoundly, as they navigate this unexpected tragedy. Vinod’s condition continues to worry his family and medical staff at the hospital.

Dr RB Goyal, the Civil Surgeon at the district hospital, confirmed that both individuals were admitted in serious condition on the morning of May 15. He emphasised that while watermelon was consumed, the authorities have yet to establish a direct link between this fruit and the illness. It has been suggested that the pair might be experiencing symptoms consistent with a stomach infection.

Medical examinations are being conducted to ascertain the root cause of the illness. The hospital staff are working diligently to provide necessary care to Vinod while investigators are tasked with determining the overall health factors surrounding this unfortunate event.
