A 34-year-old man, identified as Prashant, reportedly killed three members of his family before ending his own life on Saturday in Kottigepalya, located within the jurisdiction of the Kamakshipalya Police Station. According to police reports, the victims included Prashant’s mother, Mangalamma (55), his grandmother Nanjamma, and his maternal uncle Satish. The alleged attack occurred at their home, where it is claimed that Prashant used a machete against his relatives.

Initially, law enforcement had identified Satish as Prashant’s brother-in-law; however, subsequent inquiries established that he was actually Prashant’s maternal uncle and was unmarried. Police have confirmed that no suicide note was discovered at the scene of the incident.

Police officials stated that the tragic event transpired shortly after Prashant’s father, Chikkanna, left for work early that morning. Following the alleged murders, Prashant reportedly hanged himself from a ceiling fan inside the residence.

Police Response and Investigation

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru West Division, Yatheesh N, the Kamakshipalya police received notification regarding the incident between 8.30 am and 9 am. Neighbours became suspicious upon hearing unsettling sounds emanating from the house and alerted law enforcement. Upon their arrival, officers found two bodies near the entrance of the home and another person hanging inside. A fourth body, belonging to Mangalamma, was also located in the residence, all showing signs of injury consistent with a sharp weapon attack.

Preliminary findings indicate that Prashant has died by suicide following the alleged murders of the three family members. Investigators have stated that the case remains in its early stages, with efforts ongoing to establish the precise details and motivations behind these actions.

During a press briefing, Chikkanna expressed his disbelief at the events. He stated he was shocked to learn about the incident and maintained that there had been no signs of conflict within the family prior to the occurrence. Chikkanna mentioned, “We had all shared a meal together the previous night, and I left for work around 6 am as per my usual routine. What transpired after that is unfathomable.”

Family Background and Mental Health Concerns

Chikkanna further commented on his son’s mental wellbeing, asserting that Prashant had been mentally stable and appeared to be fine prior to the incident. He expressed confusion regarding the violent outburst, stating there had been no quarrels or disturbances at home before he left for work on Saturday morning.

The police have formally registered a case and are diligently working to uncover the sequence of events that led to this tragic situation. Mental health issues have been suggested as a contributing factor, with Prashant reportedly suffering from such concerns prior to the incident. However, specific details surrounding his mental state have yet to be confirmed by authorities.
