K2 Airways Cargo Plane Wreckage Found, Search On for Missing Crew

The CSR Journal Magazine

The wreckage of a K2 Airways cargo plane has been located in the Arabian Sea following its disappearance while en route from Sharjah in the UAE to Karachi. This private aircraft, a Boeing 737, had five crew members on board when it lost contact with air traffic controllers late on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. Pakistani search and rescue teams successfully identified the wreckage approximately 53 nautical miles south of Ormara on the Balochistan coast after conducting extensive operations over a period of 12 hours.

The Pakistan Airports Authority confirmed that both the Pakistan Navy and the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency were instrumental in identifying the location of the wreckage. Authorities have indicated that recovery efforts are ongoing, particularly with respect to finding the missing crew members. According to a reliable source within the PAA, the wreckage was found near the last known position of the aircraft when it lost contact with Karachi controllers.

Reports suggest that the chances of survival for the five missing crew members are minimal, considering the circumstances surrounding the crash. The crew members, who are all Pakistani nationals, have been identified as Captain Muhammad Rizwan Idris, First Officer Faisal Jatoi, flight engineers Muhammad Hamid and Muhammad Arif Siddiqui, as well as loadmaster Muhammad Taufiq Khan.

Investigation and Recovery Efforts Underway

Following the recovery of the wreckage, relevant authorities have established a perimeter around the site for further investigation and evidence collection. An official stated that the inquiry into the cause of the crash is currently underway, with efforts being made to gather additional information about both the aircraft and crew members involved. Investigators aim to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident and any potential technical failures that may have contributed to the crash.

In light of the incident, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed the Civil Aviation Authority, in conjunction with the Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Air Force, to intensify search and rescue operations in the Arabian Sea. Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari has conveyed his condolences to the families of the affected crew members, expressing solidarity during this difficult time as reported by his office.

Initial reports reveal that the aircraft was flying at an altitude of 34,000 feet before it began experiencing difficulties. It is noteworthy that the plane had been on the ground in Sharjah for approximately ten days due to a prior technical fault before it resumed its cargo mission. The PAA had indicated that the cargo flight reported issues with its navigational system at 9:18 PM local time on July 7, and was promptly guided by Karachi Area Control Centre.

Commercial Vessels Assist in Search Operation

In an effort to enhance the search and rescue mission, commercial vessels operated by the National Shipping Corporation have been deployed to aid in scanning the waters for any signs of the missing crew members. The coordination between various agencies reflects a concerted effort to locate the crew members and gather intelligence about the circumstances surrounding the crash. The wreckage’s location has now been confirmed in the Arabian Sea, while the search for the five missing individuals remains a primary focus.

The incident raises concerns about aviation safety protocols, particularly in relation to cargo operations. As investigations progress, authorities are expected to continue their comprehensive approach to understanding the incident and its implications for future flights. The aviation community is closely monitoring developments as information unfolds regarding the recovery operation and the missing crew members.
