Jal Jeevan Mission in Rajasthan which was suspended over corruption allegations and a shortage of funds has resumed, said Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. Shekhawat made the announcement during the night chaupal at Phalsund in Jaisalmer district. Fresh funds amounting to Rs 4,800 crore have been allocated and transferred to restart the project. “Now there will be no shortage of funds,” said Shekhawat.

Jal Jeevan Mission 2028 has been extended, and an additional Rs 1 lakh crore has been allocated. During the chaupal, many MLAs were present, including MLA Mahant Pratap Puri, former MLA Sang Singh Bhati, District Collector Anupama Jorwal.

Strong Warning Over Corruption

Taking a strong stance on water and electricity misuse, Shekhawat criticized the previous government for alleged corruption in the Jal Jeevan Mission. He even warned officials and contractors against irregularities. Talking about the corruption, Shekhawat said those involved in fund misuse will face consequences, just like former minister Mahesh Joshi. “No matter how influential anyone may be, if they have stolen the people’s right to water, they will be punished. I will spare no one,” he said.

Directions for Water Supply During Summer

During the Chaupal Shekhawat instructed Public Health Engineering Department officials to ensure drinking water is supplied uninterrupted during summer. He also directed officials to work in mission mode, keep the spirit of public service in mind and warned that negligence will result in strict action. Shekhawat directed the administration to keep a close check on water tanker operations and ensure underprivileged families receive water free of cost. A tanker schedule will now be published so that villagers in remote hamlets receive information on timings and availability.

100 % electrification claims questioned

Calling the previous government’s claim of 100% electrification in Rajasthan misleading, Shekhawat said thousands of homes in Jaisalmer, Barmer and other districts of Rajasthan remain without electricity. Shekhawat said that under the Prime Minister’s new scheme, those residing without electricity will be electrified within 1,000 days.
