Iran to Engage in Two-Week Negotiations with US on Ceasefire Terms

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Supreme National Security Council of Iran has stated that it will enter a two-week negotiation phase with the United States in Islamabad. This engagement aims to finalize the terms of a proposed ceasefire. In its announcement, the Council proclaimed that Iran has achieved a “historic” victory amid ongoing conflicts in the region.

In a comprehensive statement, the Council outlined that Iran has successfully persuaded Washington to accept a ten-point framework that includes essential strategic and economic conditions. These demands encompass non-aggression guarantees, preservation of Iran’s authority over the Strait of Hormuz, acknowledgment of uranium enrichment, lifting of existing sanctions, withdrawal of US military personnel from the area, and compensation for damages.

Regarding the status of the conflict, the statement asserted that adversaries have experienced an “undeniable, historic and crushing defeat” in their military actions against the Iranian nation. It further emphasized that Iran has made the United States concede to its ten-point plan, highlighting a significant shift in the power landscape of the region.

The Council clarified that the upcoming discussions are strictly focused on negotiating the specifics of this framework. They are expected to conclude within a 15-day timeline. However, it noted that these talks do not equate to an immediate cessation of hostilities, stating, “This does not mean an end to the war and Iran will accept an end to the war only when… its details are also finalized in the negotiations.”

Iran credited its military forces and allied groups for what it described as major successes on the battlefield over the preceding 40 days. The Council claimed that these forces, alongside the “axis of resistance,” have significantly weakened US military capabilities and assets in the region, complicating initial forecasts of a rapid American victory.

Despite various ceasefire proposals from the United States over the past month, Tehran had declined all overtures until its objectives were fulfilled. The statement indicated that “the enemy has been begging for more than a month to stop the fierce fire of Iran and the resistance… but the country’s officials… responded negatively to all these requests.”

According to the statement, Prime Minister of Pakistan has acted as a mediator, relaying that the US has agreed “in principle” to the outlined negotiation framework. As a result, discussions will be held in Islamabad based on these terms.

The Iranian leadership indicated that the negotiations would occur from a position of strength, affirming that military operations would persist until diplomatic gains are achieved. It also stressed the necessity of national unity and called for continued public backing during this negotiating stage.

While the assertions within the statement could not be independently validated, the announcement suggests a possible diplomatic opening following weeks of intensified tensions and conflict in the region.
