Iran Denies Ongoing Negotiations with the US Amid Ongoing Conflict

The CSR Journal Magazine

Iran has categorically rejected allegations of any direct or indirect negotiations with the United States since the onset of conflict on February 28. This statement directly counters multiple assertions from Washington, which has claimed that discussions were progressing positively. The Iranian Foreign Ministry made this clarification on Tuesday, emphasizing that no negotiations have occurred during the 31 days of warfare. Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei stated that the US had only submitted requests for talks and provided proposals through intermediaries, including Pakistan.

Details of Communication Between Iran and the US

Baqaei noted that Iran has not engaged in any negotiations with the US throughout the duration of the conflict. He specified that what transpired was merely a request from the US for discussions, along with proposals conveyed through intermediaries. He highlighted Pakistan’s role in delivering these communications. The spokesperson stressed that Iran’s focus remains steadfast on self-defense as military operations continue in the region.

Iran’s Historical Context Influencing Current Stance

He further elaborated on Iran’s cautious approach to diplomatic engagement, reflecting on previous experiences of what he termed as diplomatic “betrayals.” Baqaei stated, “Our position is very clear. As America’s military aggression and invasion continue unabated, our energies and resources are concentrated on defending the essence of Iran.” He underscored the impact of past experiences on Iran’s current diplomatic posture.

Contrasting US Statements on Talks

The Iranian statement stands in stark contrast to comments made by the White House. US Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt asserted that negotiations were ongoing and progressing well. President Donald Trump has repeatedly suggested that a deal may be on the horizon, indicating that communication had taken place with Iranian officials through both direct and indirect channels. Trump also mentioned that the US has been in contact with Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, proposing to evaluate whether he is a suitable contact for further discussions.

Current Status of the Iran-US-Israel Conflict

The conflict, which has come to be known as the Iran-US-Israel war, was initiated under Operation Epic Fury and has now entered into its second month without signs of de-escalation. The war began following the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and continues to escalate across the region. Attempts to negotiate an end to the conflict have thus far been unsuccessful.

Iran’s Stance on Peace Proposals

In response to ongoing tensions, President Trump proposed a 15-point peace plan, which was promptly rejected by Iran. Instead, Iran presented five conditions that included demands for war reparations, the lifting of sanctions, and the acknowledgment of Iran’s sovereignty over key strategic waterways, specifically the Strait of Hormuz. The disparity between negotiations and military operations exemplifies the ongoing complexities in US-Iran relations amid the current conflict.
