IPL 2026: Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s Fiery Bowling Restricts Mumbai Indians to 166/7

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a gripping matchup on May 10 at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur, Bhuvneshwar Kumar delivered an impressive performance, claiming four wickets that enabled Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to limit the Mumbai Indians (MI) to a total of 166 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Bhuvneshwar’s bowling figures of 4/23 in four overs underscored his significant impact on the game.

Bhuvneshwar’s Early Breakthroughs

Bhuvneshwar provided RCB with an explosive start, securing the first wicket in the opening over by dismissing MI opener Ryan Rickelton, who managed only two runs. Rohit Sharma, MI’s captain, made an attempt to regain momentum, striking Josh Hazlewood for 18 runs in a single over, including two sixes. However, Bhuvneshwar quickly re-established RCB’s dominance by taking critical wickets in the third over. He removed Rohit for 22 runs, caught by Jitesh Sharma, and followed this with the dismissal of Suryakumar Yadav, who fell for a golden duck, leaving MI at a precarious 28 for 3 early in their innings.

Stable Partnership Amidst Early Wickets

Despite the early setbacks, MI found stability through a partnership between Naman Dhir and Tilak Varma, who together added 82 runs to the team’s total. This partnership lifted the score from 28 for 3 to 102 for 3 by the 12th over. Just as MI appeared poised for a late-innings surge, RCB’s Rasikh Salam Dar took a crucial wicket, dismissing Naman in the 13th over for 47 runs off 32 balls, which ended a partnership that had the potential to deepen MI’s dominance.

Key Wickets Shift Momentum

Romario Shepherd also made a significant contribution, removing the dangerous Will Jacks for 10 runs, which left MI at 136 for 5 as they approached the final overs. By the 17th over, Tilak achieved his half-century, scoring 50 runs off 37 balls. However, with MI’s score at 155 for 6 in the 18th over, Bhuvneshwar returned to dismiss Tilak, leaving the team in a worrying situation as they pushed towards the conclusion of their innings.

Final Overs and RCB’s Bowling Performance

In the crucial final overs, Josh Hazlewood showcased his bowling prowess by removing RCB’s Raj Bawa, also keeping the runs conceded to a minimum in the penultimate over. With MI’s Corbin Bosch and Deepak Chahar in the crease, Rasikh Salam Dar executed the final over effectively, conceding only five runs as MI concluded their innings at 166 for 7. RCB, entering the match after suffering two consecutive defeats, now requires 167 runs to secure a victory and enhance their prospects of reaching the playoffs.
