Indus Towers Installs 500 Sanitary Napkin Vending Machines Across 175 Railway Stations

Northern Railways, in conjunction with Indus Towers, has launched a project aimed at increasing access to sanitary products for women. Under the initiative, 500 sanitary napkin vending machines have been installed at 175 railway stations located in the Delhi, Firozpur, Ambala, Moradabad, and Lucknow divisions. This effort is part of Indus Towers’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme known as Nari Samman.

The vending machines are designed with IoT-enabled monitoring systems and have reportedly dispensed approximately three crore sanitary napkins since their deployment. This initiative guarantees that women travellers have round-the-clock access to sanitary products, thereby supporting menstrual hygiene and convenience during their journeys.

Indus Towers’ Nari Samman programme is part of a larger CSR initiative titled Pragati, which aims to establish a sustainable ecosystem focused on awareness, access, and community support. The project aligns with the Government of India’s efforts to improve menstrual health awareness through the Menstrual Hygiene Scheme (MHS) under the National Health Mission.

Objective to Promote Women’s Health

Rajesh Kumar Pandey, General Manager of Northern Railways, commented on the significance of this initiative, highlighting the reliance of millions of women and girls on the railway network for their daily activities, including work, education, and healthcare. He stated that ensuring comfort, safety, and dignity for these passengers is a priority for the Indian Railways. The partnership with Indus Towers is viewed as a significant step towards fostering inclusivity and support within public spaces.

Tejinder Kalra, Chief Operating Officer of Indus Towers Ltd., remarked on the execution and scale of the initiative across one of India’s busiest railway zones. He pointed out that the deployment of resilient and technology-driven solutions reflects Indus Towers’ expertise, ensuring access becomes a seamless part of everyday life for women. The partnership reaffirms a commitment to building social infrastructure that enhances women’s daily experiences.

This initiative is part of the larger goal set by Indus Towers, aiming to have a positive impact on more than 150 million lives by the year 2030, which underscores the company’s commitment to social responsibility and community welfare.

Enhancing Infrastructure for Women Travellers

The installation of sanitary napkin vending machines complements the ongoing efforts of Indian Railways to make travel more dignified and inclusive for women. This initiative integrates menstrual hygiene infrastructure into railway stations, which is crucial given the various steps already taken, including reserved coaches for women and improvements in sanitation facilities.
