The Indian Coast Guard has been actively engaged in rescue operations amid severe flood conditions in Daman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, and South Gujarat, following continuous rainfall and rising floodwaters. These efforts are part of extensive Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) and Search and Rescue (SAR) operations. Since the early hours of July 22, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has reportedly rescued 170 stranded individuals through various operations, showcasing their commitment to public safety during this crisis.

Operations began with the rescue of five individuals from Khanvel, Silvassa, during the night of July 22 and 23. The efforts were soon extended to three fishermen trapped along the riverbank in the Kadaiya Coastal Area. During one of the major operations, the ICG successfully evacuated 60 people stranded in the Welspun Industrial Area. This area had been severely affected by floodwaters, resulting in a complete severance of road connectivity.

The rescue missions continued through July 23 and into the early hours of July 24. Notable operations included the evacuation of seven individuals from a bus caught in floodwaters near Aero Fibre Pvt Ltd, as well as the rescue of ten people from Dongri. Additionally, ICG helicopters played a crucial role in airlifting four persons from the Valsad-Pardi region. Furthermore, eight more individuals were saved from the flood-affected Reliance Industries area during this period.

Complex Challenges Faced During Rescue Efforts

Rescue missions encountered numerous challenges, including hazardous weather conditions and rapidly rising water levels. One significant incident involved the successful rescue of ten individuals from the Avadh Society area. Among these individuals were a nine-month pregnant woman and another person suffering from respiratory distress, highlighting the urgent nature of these operations.

On July 24, the ICG deployed two helicopters to airlift 33 individuals from Mendar Village in Navsari district. Among those rescued was one individual reported to be experiencing severe chest pains, demonstrating the critical nature of timely medical intervention. The swift response and coordination of efforts by the Coast Guard have been pivotal in safeguarding lives during this natural disaster.

Throughout these operations, the ICG’s Disaster Relief Teams (DRTs) have worked tirelessly, conducting round-the-clock missions that included navigating submerged terrain and reaching areas deemed inaccessible due to flooding. Helicopters provided essential aerial support, enabling the rapid evacuation of trapped civilians from isolated locations.
