One Person Dies, Six Injured, and Three Missing After Vehicle Falls Into Lohit River

The unfortunate incident saw one individual lose their life, while six others were injured and three remain unaccounted for after a vehicle, registered in Delhi, plunged into the Lohit River. This accident took place in Anjaw district, Arunachal Pradesh, at approximately 6 am on August 13. The vehicle, which was carrying ten individuals, fell around 300 feet from the road and into a deep gorge before eventually submerging in the river.

The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) of Anjaw reported that the vehicle went over the cliff in the Sarti area along National Highway 113, which runs between Walong and Hawai. Local authorities were notified about the accident shortly after 9:59 am on the same day.

Rescue Operations Underway

In response to the incident, a thorough search and rescue operation was promptly initiated. The operations were coordinated by the DDMA, engaging various agencies including the district administration, local police, the Indian Army, and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). Local volunteers also joined the efforts to assist in the search.

The rescue team successfully retrieved six injured individuals from the site, comprising four males, one female, and one child. Unfortunately, the body of a female victim was recovered, and three people are still missing. The ongoing operation aims to locate those unaccounted for and provide necessary assistance to the injured.

While the SDRF was actively involved, the DDMA announced the necessity of additional support, leading them to request the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to join the rescue efforts. The situation continues to evolve as authorities work to ensure the safety of all those affected.
