Indian Boxers Nikhil, Deepak and Saneh Advance with Victories at Boxing World Cup in China

On the third day of the Boxing World Cup (Stage 2) taking place in China, Indian boxers Nikhil, Deepak, and Saneh secured dominant wins, ensuring their advancement in their respective weight divisions. Competing in the men’s 55kg category, Nikhil delivered a convincing performance, defeating Brazil’s Kelvy Trindade with a unanimous decision of 5-0. This victory confirms Nikhil’s continued presence in the tournament.

Deepak made a noteworthy impression in the men’s 70kg division, where he faced Japan’s Sewon Okazawa, a silver medalist from the 2025 World Championships. Deepak also won decisively, achieving a 5-0 verdict, and thereby cementing his place in the next round alongside Nikhil.

In the women’s competition, Saneh showcased her boxing skills in the 65kg category, overcoming South Korea’s Seon Sujin with a score of 4-1. This win allows Saneh to progress further in the tournament, contributing to India’s overall performance at the championship.

Upcoming Matches for Indian Boxers

As the tournament advances to Day 4, two more Indian boxers are set to compete. Minakshi, in the women’s 51kg category, will face Poland’s Natalia Kuczewska. Concurrently, Abhinash Jamwal will take on Kyrgyzstan’s Mirzokhid Imamnazarov in the 65kg category. These matches present opportunities for further advancement for the Indian boxers in the tournament.

Results from Day Three

On Day 3, the Indian contingent witnessed mixed outcomes in other preliminary matches. Malsawmtluanga, competing in the 80kg category, faced a setback, losing to Jordan’s Ashaish Hussein by a score of 1-4. Additionally, Mahi Lama, representing the women’s 60kg division, exited the tournament after a 0-5 defeat to Mongolia’s Monkhor Namuun. These results highlight the challenges faced by athletes in high-stakes competitions.

As the Boxing World Cup continues, the focus remains on the Indian boxers who have demonstrated commendable performances so far. The upcoming matches will be critical in determining their progression in the tournament and enhancing India’s standing in the global boxing arena.
