The seventh edition of the India-Uzbekistan annual military exercise, named “Dustlik 2026,” has officially begun in Namangan, Uzbekistan. The opening ceremony occurred on April 15, 2026, at the Gurumsaray Field Training Area. This exercise is set to run from April 12 to April 25, focusing on enhancing cooperation between the Indian Army and the Uzbek Army.

The primary objective of “Dustlik 2026” is to improve operational synergy, particularly in conducting joint special operations aimed at the neutralisation of unlawful armed groups. This initiative reflects the commitment of both nations to bolster their defence cooperation.

Focus on Joint Operations and Technological Integration

The exercise emphasises the integration of advanced technologies to boost interoperability,” noted the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI) of the Indian Army. “Dustlik 2026” centres on joint special operations and the enhancement of combined capabilities for executing missions in semi-mountainous terrain.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the exercise will involve joint planning and tactical drills, aimed at achieving a high level of physical fitness among the soldiers from both countries. The training also aims to establish a unified operational protocol between the two armies for efficient execution of joint operations.

Key operational components will include land navigation, strike missions against enemy bases, and the seizure of enemy-held areas. The Indian contingent is set to learn about the operational procedures of the Uzbekistan Armed Forces while sharing their own experiences, thereby fostering mutual understanding and cooperation.

Strategic Implications and Future Cooperation

“The concluding segment of the exercise will consist of a 48-hour validation exercise designed to test the tactical drills for joint operations,” the ministry release stated. This segment will particularly focus on the preparation and execution of special operations aimed at neutralising unlawful armed groups, showcasing the intent to enhance collaborative operational capacities.

By sharing best practices and techniques in conducting joint operations, “Dustlik 2026” is expected to strengthen the interoperability and command coordination between the two armies. This exercise also serves to develop camaraderie among the soldiers of both nations, further solidifying the relationship between India and Uzbekistan.

Through such collaborative efforts, India and Uzbekistan aim to enhance their defence cooperation and, by extension, bilateral ties.
