India-Russia Partnership Remains Strong, Says Russian Envoy Babushkin

The CSR Journal Magazine

Roman Babushkin, the Charge d’Affaires at the Russian Embassy in India, stated that the partnership between India and Russia is resilient even amid international sanctions imposed on Russia. In an interaction with the media, Babushkin emphasized that attempts to undermine this bilateral relationship have not succeeded. He noted that cooperation has continued without interruption over the years, reinforcing the strength of their ties. “Our cooperation, our ties, our dialogue remained uninterrupted, irrespective of whether somebody wants it or not,” he remarked.

Babushkin dismissed the notion that Western sanctions would diminish the ties between India and Russia. He pointed out that such speculation has been consistently proven incorrect. “There have been ongoing doubts and rumors, especially during the past four years when Russia faced multiple rounds of sanctions, but our partnership has remained intact,” he stated. He attributed this durability to a substantial goodwill that exists between the two nations, which enables them to seek mutually beneficial solutions even in shifting circumstances.

New Economic Mechanisms Established

The Russian envoy mentioned that both countries are actively developing new frameworks to ensure economic and trade cooperation continues despite ongoing restrictions. “We are implementing a new settlement scheme based on national currencies. Additionally, new logistics and alternative cooperation mechanisms are being explored,” he added, underscoring that their collaboration would persist regardless of external challenges.

Babushkin also highlighted the latest consultations between India and Russia on global issues. He referenced a press release from India’s external affairs ministry regarding discussions on matters related to the United Nations. “These consultations provided an opportunity to address various points, including the current situation in the Middle East,” he stated. He reiterated that the dialogue between the two countries remains steadfast, asserting that they continue to be reliable partners.

Telephonic Conversation Between Foreign Ministers

On March 11, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar had a telephonic conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. During this discussion, both leaders exchanged views on the ongoing conflict in West Asia and reviewed diplomatic efforts related to the crisis. Jaishankar described the conversation as a “good telecon,” highlighting that it included mutual perspectives on the escalating situation and the ongoing diplomatic initiatives in the region. He also mentioned that they assessed their bilateral cooperation agenda during the call.
