External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s recent visit to Poland involved comprehensive discussions on various topics, including trade, investment, space, digital technology, artificial intelligence, and defence. These talks, held on September 4, 2026, also addressed critical global challenges such as the ongoing war in Ukraine and the situation in West Asia.

During his visit, Jaishankar met with Polish President Karol Nawrocki, emphasising the favourable trajectory of the India-Poland Strategic Partnership. Both officials exchanged insights on several matters, including the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor and the forthcoming G20 summit.

After his meeting with President Nawrocki, Jaishankar expressed his contentment with the discussions on social media, highlighting the aim to enhance the bilateral Strategic Partnership further. This partnership is seen as vital for both nations amid changing geopolitical landscapes.

Engagement with Polish Officials

In addition to his meeting with the President, Jaishankar held dialogues with Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosaw Sikorski. They scrutinised progress under the Joint Action Plan 2024-28, which aims to strengthen various facets of collaboration. The discussions included themes from digital advancements to educational exchange programmes.

Jaishankar acknowledged Poland’s support for intensified India-EU cooperation, noting optimism regarding the impending Free Trade Agreement (FTA) which is expected to solidify bilateral relations. He reiterated that the FTA’s implementation would present further opportunities for growth and mutual benefit.

During the discussions, Jaishankar highlighted the importance of addressing complex global issues, such as supply chain resilience, and issues concerning food, fuel, and fertiliser security. These factors are increasingly pivotal amidst the backdrop of the ongoing geopolitical tensions.

Reflections on Global Conflicts

Prior to his engagements in Poland, Jaishankar had travelled to Ukraine, where he engaged in conversations that touched upon significant global and regional matters, notably the war in Ukraine, which has now lasted five years. He expressed India’s position that the continuation of hostilities is detrimental to all parties involved, leading to increased suffering and costs worldwide.

Jaishankar quoted Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that efforts must prioritise dialogue and diplomacy to resolve conflicts. He strongly advocated for collaborative approaches to find effective solutions to the war in Ukraine and other regional tensions. His remarks resonate with India’s ongoing commitment to mediating discussions among affected nations.

Additionally, Jaishankar addressed the current circumstances in the Gulf region and ongoing developments in the Indo-Pacific. These discussions further underline the multifaceted nature of international relations and India’s role in promoting stability and cooperation in these areas.

Later in his journey, he connected with the India-Poland Parliamentary Group, where he outlined his vision for a modern relationship between India and Poland. His engagements culminated in a visit that not only aimed to expand cooperation but also examined pressing global issues that affect both nations and the broader international community.
