A tourist bus travelling towards Gujarat caught fire beneath the Goregaon East Metro station in Mumbai on the evening of September 4, 2026. The fire incident occurred at approximately 6.15 pm near the Cheknaka signal located under the Oberoi Garden City Metro Station, prompting a temporary disruption in traffic flow on the busy thoroughfare.

Upon investigation, it was determined that the bus, named Mahadeo Traveler and bearing the registration number MJ 01 AN 1695, had five passengers on board at the time of the incident. Fortunately, all individuals, including the driver, Nijar Kapadia, emerged from the situation unharmed.

Footage recorded at the site shows the private tourist bus engulfed in flames, with substantial smoke billowing from the vehicle as emergency services responded. The images depict the intense scene and the subsequent disruption to road traffic caused by the fire.

Response from Emergency Services

Emergency personnel, including members from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, police force, 108 ambulance services, and metro authorities, were promptly mobilised to the scene following the reports of the fire. Firefighters launched an urgent operation to extinguish the flames, and their efforts proved effective as they were able to bring the situation under control.

Following the successful firefighting operation, the affected road stretch was cleared, allowing for the resumption of vehicle movement in the area. The quick response of the emergency personnel is credited with preventing potential injuries or casualties given the circumstances.

Initial assessments indicate that a technical fault may have been responsible for triggering the fire, although the exact cause remains unverified. Officials are currently engaged in further inquiries to determine the specific circumstances surrounding the incident.

Ongoing Investigation into the Cause of the Fire

Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough examination of the bus to gain insights into the cause of the fire. Attachments to the vehicle and reports from the driver and passengers will form a part of this detailed assessment.

As the investigation proceeds, further information is anticipated to emerge from the police and fire officials who are working to complete their preliminary inquiry. The safety and operational protocols concerning tourist buses in the region are also likely to be reviewed in light of this incident.

While no injuries were reported during this fire incident, it serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance with vehicle maintenance and safety measures. Authorities aim to ensure that such events do not recur in the future and that adequate support is provided to those involved in similar situations.
