Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty advanced to the semifinals of the China Masters following a challenging quarter-final match against Denmark’s Kim Astrup and Anders Rasmussen on Friday, September 4. This victory marks their fifth win out of eleven encounters against the experienced Danish pair.

The match began with a strong performance from Satwik and Chirag, who quickly established a 5-1 lead. They showcased their skills by dominating the first game. However, the Danish team adjusted their strategy in the second game, applying increased pressure and employing a tactical net game that hindered the Indians’ natural aggression.

The Danish partners’ efficient coverage of the court and agile movements led them to claim the second game 21-16, compelling a decisive third game. As the final game commenced, Satwik and Chirag found themselves trailing 5-9 but stayed composed, demonstrating resilience and patience in their approach.

Comeback in the Deciding Game

Midway through the final game, Satwik and Chirag managed to reduce the deficit to just two points, setting the stage for a competitive finish. Their strategy shifted to a more proactive style, matching the Danish duo in both pace and creativity. The tension heightened at a critical moment when both teams were tied at 15-15.

This achievement marks the fourth time Satwik and Chirag have reached the semifinals of the China Masters, having previously finished as runners-up in 2023 and 2025, and they were eliminated in the semifinals in 2024. They are slated to face the seventh-seeded Indonesian team of Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Moh Reza Isfahani in the upcoming semifinals on Saturday.

The match served as an important high-intensity outing for the Indian pair, who are currently accumulating much-needed match experience in preparation for the Asian Games commencing on September 19. After returning from an injury-related hiatus during the BWF World Championships held in Delhi last month, Satwik and Chirag exhibited their determination to regain competitive form by participating in this prestigious tournament.
