India Missions Run 24/7 in Gulf to Aid Nationals Amid Tensions

The CSR Journal Magazine

India’s missions and diplomatic posts are actively operational 24 hours a day in the Gulf region to assist its nationals amid ongoing conflicts in West Asia. Aseem R Mahajan, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), conveyed this information during an Inter-Ministerial Briefing focused on recent developments in the area. He emphasized the importance of maintaining regular contact with various Indian community associations and organizations.

As part of their efforts, Indian missions have been issuing updated advisories to keep citizens informed about safety and welfare. Mahajan noted a significant reduction in queries and calls to mission helplines, indicating that many urgent matters concerning stranded nationals have been resolved. This development highlights the effectiveness of the ongoing initiatives taken by the missions.

Special Provisions for Indian Students

Attention has also been directed towards the welfare of Indian students in the Gulf region, especially those studying under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Mahajan pointed out that the missions have collaborated closely with schools and the CBSE to address the educational needs of these students during the crisis. With various major school boards cancelling examinations in the region due to the unrest, this cooperation has become essential.

Additional Secretary Mahajan informed that the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and Kerala Board exams have also been cancelled, with associated boards set to announce how marks will be determined for those students affected. Measures taken to support students include the relocation of several individuals from Tehran and Shiraz to other cities, facilitated through the Indian Embassy.

Status of Fuel Supply in the Region

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas provided insights on the ongoing fuel supply situation, addressing concerns about the steady availability of petroleum products and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). This comes against the backdrop of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, an essential shipping route for fuel. Efforts are being made to ensure that there is no shortage of these vital resources amid regional disruptions.
