ICC Unveils May 2026 Men’s Player of the Month Nominees Featuring Stars From Bangladesh and Nepal

The ICC has announced the nominees for the Men’s Player of the Month for May 2026, featuring two standout players from Bangladesh and a prominent all-rounder from Nepal. Veteran batsman Mushfiqur Rahim has been nominated following his critical contributions that led Bangladesh to a decisive 2-0 Test series victory against Pakistan during the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle. Rahim emerged as a key figure as he accumulated a total of 253 runs over the course of two Tests, averaging 63.25. He made a significant impact in the opening match with a vital score of 71 in the first innings and followed it up with a remarkable 137 runs in the second innings of the second Test held in Sylhet. His consistent performances and leadership on the field earned him the Player of the Series accolade, marking a notable achievement as Bangladesh celebrated its second consecutive Test series triumph over Pakistan.

Taijul Islam’s Bowling Excellence

Another nominee from the Bangladesh contingent is left-arm spinner Taijul Islam. He played an integral role in leading the bowling attack throughout the series against Pakistan, finishing as the top wicket-taker with 13 dismissals at an impressive average of 19.61. Taijul’s defining performance occurred during the second Test in Sylhet, where he bowled for an exhausting 34.2 overs and took 6 wickets for 120 runs in Pakistan’s second innings. Alongside his exceptional bowling, Taijul also contributed valuable runs, scoring 58 runs during the series, aiding Bangladesh to secure a historic series clean sweep against their rivals.

Dipendra Singh Airee’s All-Round Performance

Nepal’s Dipendra Singh Airee has also earned a nomination for his outstanding performance in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2. Over six One Day Internationals, he amassed a total of 249 runs, averaging 49.80 with a strike rate of 110.66. His impressive month included a century against the United Arab Emirates, as well as two half-centuries, highlighting his capability as a top-order batsman. Furthermore, Airee also showcased his all-round abilities by securing eight wickets at an average of 19.12 with an economy rate of 4.52. A standout moment in his campaign was marked by a brilliant bowling performance where he took 4 wickets for just 24 runs against the United States, emphasizing his role as a key match-winner for Nepal.
