Himachal Pradesh University Student Arrested After Stabbing Incident in Shimla

A student was arrested in Shimla on Monday after allegedly stabbing a fellow student during a confrontation between two groups at Himachal Pradesh University (HPU).

The suspect, identified as Mohit Dogra, is a second-semester law student. He was apprehended by the Baluganj police shortly after the incident, which took place near the university’s Law Faculty.

Victim Receives Medical Attention

The injured student, identified as Dhanraj, was promptly taken to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla, where he is reported to be in stable condition. Superintendent of Police (SP) Gaurav Singh confirmed that authorities were alerted to the incident shortly after it occurred.

Details of the Incident

The police received a call on March 9, 2026, during the afternoon, informing them of the altercation between the student groups. SP Gaurav Singh indicated that officers arrived at the scene quickly and initiated an investigation. According to information provided by a complainant named Mukesh Kumar from Teesa in Chamba district, the confrontation happened around 1:30 PM.

Allegations of Aggression

Mukesh Kumar reported that he and his companions, Yograj, Dhanraj, and Aman Kumar, were within the Law Faculty premises when the accused approached them. It was alleged that Mohit Dogra exited the faculty gate, brandished a knife, and made threats to kill the students. During the ensuing struggle, he reportedly stabbed Dhanraj, resulting in injuries that necessitated medical care.

Legal Actions Taken

In response to the incident, police have registered a case under Sections 109 and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation is currently ongoing, as law enforcement seeks to gather further details about the circumstances surrounding the confrontation.

SP Gaurav Singh reiterated that the accused is in custody while the inquiry proceeds.
