The recent heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand has led to a section of a newly constructed bridge collapsing on the Dehradun-Paonta Sahib Highway, specifically between Prem Nagar and Nanda Ki Chowki. The incident occurred following continuous rain disrupting the normal flow of traffic. Local authorities have promptly responded to the situation, focusing on mitigating the impact on commuters.

Dehradun District Magistrate Ashish Chauhan addressed the media regarding the incident, clarifying that efforts are underway to reopen the affected road within the next three to four hours. He assured that the structural integrity of the bridge remains intact, stating that further actions would be taken later to address any safety concerns. The immediate priority, according to Chauhan, is to re-establish traffic on the route.

In conjunction with the bridge collapse, the Char Dham Yatra has been temporarily suspended for the days of July 25 and 26. This decision was made to ensure the safety of pilgrims, as several routes have been obstructed by landslides triggered by the heavy rain. The Garhwal Divisional Commissioner stated that the yatra would resume only when the weather conditions improve and when the roads are verified to be safe for travel.

Ongoing adverse weather conditions have also caused significant challenges on the Kedarnath Highway. Roadblocks have been reported in the Munkatiya area due to falling debris from nearby hills, which has necessitated immediate road-clearing operations. Heavy machinery is currently being employed to remove the accumulated debris, and the district administration is actively working to facilitate the safe transit of pilgrims through these critical areas.

The Yatra Control Room has been operationally monitoring the situation continuously, providing important updates and instructions to various personnel, including sector officers and police forces, to ensure a coordinated effort for the safety of travellers. Regular announcements are being made to keep all engaged parties informed of the latest developments concerning road conditions and safety measures.

Nandan Singh Rajwar, the District Disaster Management Officer for Rudraprayag, highlighted the difficulties faced on the travel routes, particularly the ongoing dangers posed by rockfall in the Munkatiya sector. Although the road has been cleared, the risk of further debris falling remains a concern. Therefore, safety protocols have been implemented to escort individuals across hazardous sections, and monitoring teams are closely observing conditions to ensure public safety.

Rajwar added that the Yatra Control Room is vigilant in tracking weather advisories and has been proactive in alerting shopkeepers and pilgrims present on the Kedarnath yatra path. Continuous communication through announcements has been established to ensure that everyone is aware of potential dangers and is adherent to safety measures while navigating the affected areas.
