Gujarat Titans’ Arrival in Ahmedabad Delayed Due to Storm Ahead of IPL 2026 Final

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Gujarat Titans’ preparations for the IPL 2026 final have been significantly affected by adverse weather conditions. A storm has delayed their arrival in Ahmedabad, disrupting plans for their match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Sunday. The team was initially scheduled to leave Chandigarh on the afternoon of Saturday, May 30, less than a day after their victorious match against the Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2.

Heavy rainfall across the regions of Punjab and Rajasthan complicated flight operations, prompting delays at Chandigarh Airport. Due to these challenging conditions, airport authorities were unable to facilitate several departures, including the Titans’ chartered flight.

As a result of the weather challenges, the Gujarat Titans are now expected to reach Ahmedabad after 10 pm on Saturday. Following their arrival, the team will make the approximately 30-minute journey to their hotel located in Gandhinagar.

Challenges Ahead for the Team

The delayed arrival presents an additional hurdle for the Titans as they prepare for their third IPL final. They are seeking a second title after winning the championship in 2022. This scenario is particularly notable as it marks the first time in IPL history that a finalist has been required to travel on the eve of the final. This situation arises from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) deciding to spread the playoffs across three venues, departing from the traditional two.

In contrast, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru have had a more straightforward lead-up to the final. They secured their place in the final through their performance in Qualifier 1, arriving in Ahmedabad on Wednesday and completing two training sessions well in advance of the match.

Rajat Patidar, the captain of RCB, noted that the extra recovery time could offer an advantage. However, he remained cautious in declaring it a significant edge. He acknowledged the fatigue facing the Titans after their match just a day earlier while reinforcing the competitive nature of both teams.

Weather Forecast and Historical Context

The city of Ahmedabad is preparing to host its fourth IPL final, with current weather forecasts indicating clear conditions for the match. This is a positive outlook, especially in light of the memories of the rain-affected final in 2023, where the Gujarat Titans faced the Chennai Super Kings. That match extended into the reserve day and concluded early in the morning after a lengthy disruption.

As the Titans gear up to reclaim the trophy won back in 2022, they carry the weight of past experiences. Last season, they nearly retained their title but fell short when Ravindra Jadeja of the Chennai Super Kings hit the final runs to secure his team’s fifth IPL championship.

With the atmosphere building ahead of the big match, the urgency for the Gujarat Titans to adjust quickly is palpable. Regardless of the recent challenges, both teams will undoubtedly aim to deliver an outstanding performance on the pitch, contributing to the highly anticipated final of IPL 2026.
