Gujarat Man Arrested After Wife’s Death Reclassified As Murder

The CSR Journal Magazine

A woman’s death in Gujarat’s Gir Somnath district, initially classified as a suicide, has been reinterpreted as a suspected murder. The death of Radhika Solanki, who had been married to Ravi Solanki for only three months, has raised serious concerns regarding domestic violence. Police allege that Ravi strangled Radhika during a domestic argument.

On the night of May 24 and 25, the couple reportedly had a heated dispute, leading to the tragic incident. Ravi initially informed others that he found Radhika hanging from a hook inside their home, thereby implying it was a suicide. However, law enforcement authorities quickly noted discrepancies in his narrative.

Allegations of Domestic Disputes

According to investigators, Radhika and Ravi’s relationship had become increasingly strained shortly before her death. The couple frequently argued over financial matters and household responsibilities. These tensions were exacerbated by the recent marriage, which had reportedly been supported by their families.

After the police arrived at the hospital following Radhika’s death, they observed suspicious marks around her neck. This prompted them to conduct a more thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her demise. Upon analysis, they found no supporting evidence at their home to substantiate Ravi’s claim of suicide.

Radhika’s father filed a formal complaint, leading the police to register a murder case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). This legal framework allows for severe penalties in cases involving domestic violence leading to murder.

Custodial Investigation and Forensic Examination

In the course of the investigation, police reportedly gathered information indicating that Ravi had pinned Radhika down and strangled her with her own blouse thread. They believe the act of strangulation could have lasted several minutes before it tragically resulted in her death.

The deceased’s body has been sent for a forensic post-mortem examination. Initial medical evaluations by doctors have expressed further suspicion regarding the circumstances of her death, aligning with the police’s findings of foul play.

As of now, Ravi Solanki is in police custody as the investigation continues to uncover further details. Authorities are committed to thoroughly scrutinising both evidence and testimonies to ensure justice for Radhika. The case has drawn attention to the ongoing issues of domestic violence, particularly in the context of newly married couples.
