The Bengaluru Police Commissionerate will be reorganised into five distinct units, as announced by Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on August 15. This decision aims to enhance law enforcement and address the increasing traffic issues in the city. The Chief Minister made this statement during the Independence Day celebrations held at the Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Ground.

Shivakumar highlighted that the existing policing framework was originally designed to cater to a population of 10 lakh, which is now insufficient due to the city’s expanding demographics. He noted the necessity of dividing the Commissionerate and establishing additional police stations as part of a newly formulated strategy to maintain law and order more effectively.

An official statement confirmed that the reorganisation will involve creating five separate Commissionerates in addition to the establishment of new police stations wherever required. This is intended to bolster the police presence and improve governance in the region.

Traffic Management Strategies Implemented

In his address, Shivakumar also discussed measures aimed at ameliorating Bengaluru’s pressing traffic challenges. He mentioned the collaboration between the Greater Bengaluru Authority and the traffic police, which is intended to foster effective coordination in managing the city’s transportation issues.
