From Fields to Leadership: Women Farmers Shine at KisaanSay Samagam 2026

The CSR Journal Magazine

The KisaanSay Samagam 2026 in New Delhi recently emerged as a significant platform showcasing the achievements of rural women, who have historically faced challenges in accessing essential services. The event celebrated their journeys from social isolation to global leadership, with women now actively participating in economic activities and community development both in India and abroad.

Held at The Ashok Hotel on June 21, the inaugural event convened over 50 farmers from 25 Farmer Producer Enterprises (FPEs) across India. This gathering facilitated dialogue and collaboration among farmers, policymakers, investors, and experts in agriculture, creating a robust network for sharing knowledge and experience.

The event featured notable attendees, including agricultural economist Dr. Ashok Gulati, Padma Shri recipient Dr. Ram Chet Chaudhary, and several high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. Their collective insights aimed at harnessing the potential of farmer-led initiatives to boost the agricultural economy in India.

Insights on Farmer Prosperity and Sustainable Agriculture

The seminar opened with a series of discussions focused on key themes such as farmer prosperity, value-added agriculture, and market access, emphasizing the importance of Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs). Speakers highlighted how government backing and support from institutions like NABARD are fostering opportunities for smallholder farmers, particularly in enhancing market linkages and realising greater value in agricultural practices.

Participants also discussed the critical role of transparent and sustainable supply chains in connecting farmers directly to consumers. They asserted that future agricultural success in India will hinge not solely on increased production but also on establishing trust and communication within the food supply network.

Expert opinions reiterated that promoting collective entrepreneurship among farmers can significantly change rural economies, driving both economic growth and self-sufficiency within local communities.

Empowerment Stories and Recognition of Achievements

A particularly impactful session centred on “Women Empowerment Through Farmer Enterprises,” moderated by journalist Anubha Bhonsle. This panel featured stories from various women farmers who have turned their enterprises into vehicles for change in their communities. Their experiences underscored a shift from marginalisation to empowerment, illustrating how these women are not just beneficiaries of development but are also driving forces within their regions.

Among the inspiring narratives was the account of Kiran, who participated in a knowledge-sharing programme in West Africa in 2017, equipping local women with essential skills in entrepreneurship. This journey signifies a pivotal moment for rural women, demonstrating their capacity to lead and innovate beyond national borders.

The KisaanSay Samagam also recognised several Farmer Producer Companies for their exemplary contributions to the KisaanSay network, which now comprises over 50,000 farmers across ten states. Many of these companies are led by women, showcasing the growing influence of female leadership in India’s agricultural landscape.

As the event concluded, many attendees echoed a key takeaway: that empowering farmers, particularly women, through entrepreneurship and access to markets can yield significant long-term socio-economic benefits.
