A French woman, Sylvie Yasmina, along with her five children, has been rescued after spending over a decade confined in a remote location in Pakistan. The rescue was initiated when one of her sons managed to escape and notify local police, leading to the discovery of their distressing situation. This operation took place in Bara, situated in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, following reports from multiple sources including BBC Urdu.

Rescue Operation Unveils Horrific Living Conditions

Upon receiving the tip-off, police officers raided the home on June 18. Inside, they discovered Sylvie Yasmina, aged fifty-four, and her five children living in severely inadequate conditions. Authorities reported that the room they inhabited was cramped and in a state of extreme disrepair. Several family members exhibited visible injuries and bruises, raising alarms about the physical and psychological treatment they had endured.

After their rescue, Yasmina and her children were transported to a women’s shelter in Peshawar for their safety and well-being. Following their relocation, police communicated with the French embassy to facilitate the family’s return to France, as they expressed a desire to leave Pakistan.

Yasmina provided a statement to investigators detailing the abuse the family suffered. She alleged that her husband had maintained a regime of violence and control over their lives, stating, “We were deprived of our freedom, and my husband did not fulfil his responsibilities as a spouse and father. He subjected us to constant beatings and pressure.” Her words highlighted the long-term nature of their isolation and mistreatment.

Abuse and Educational Deprivation Highlighted

In reports, Yasmina described her husband as a violent individual, suggesting that the family faced daily physical and mental abuse. According to police officials, her account indicated that she and her children had been isolated from any form of social interaction, which contributed significantly to their deprivation. The family reportedly moved from Australia to Pakistan in 2014, where they lived under severe restrictions.

A senior police officer indicated that the family’s education had been severely disrupted since their relocation. Yasmina explained that her children had missed extensive educational opportunities. The two older children were unable to continue their studies, whilst the three younger children, having been born in Pakistan, had not even been enrolled in school. This lack of education represents a significant aspect of the family’s overall entrapment.
