The CSR Journal Magazine

A tragic road accident in Begusarai, Bihar, resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including three Station House Officers (SHOs) and their driver. This collision occurred on National Highway-31 near Bakhadda during the early hours of June 12. The officers were reportedly returning to their district after participating in a special training programme held in Patna.

The accident happened between 12:30 a.m. and 1:00 a.m., as confirmed by Begusarai Superintendent of Police Maneesh. Eyewitnesses described a loud crash at the time of the impact, suggesting that the car collided heavily with a truck. The severity of the crash resulted in extensive damage to the vehicle, with the roof crushed and the occupants trapped inside.

The deceased have been identified as Sajan Paswan (SHO, Ratwara), Neeraj Kumar (SHO, Belari), Gyanendra Amrendra (SHO, Arar), and their private driver, Jyotish Kumar. Initial reports indicate that Neeraj Kumar, Gyanendra Amrendra, and Jyotish Kumar died immediately at the scene, while Sajan Paswan succumbed to his injuries later at Begusarai Sadar Hospital.

Speed and Control Factors

Local sources suggested that the car was travelling at a high speed, exceeding 100 kilometres per hour. Preliminary investigations have pointed toward excessive speed as a contributing factor in the accident. The driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, resulting in a direct collision with the truck ahead.

After the accident, emergency services, alongside local residents, coordinated to conduct rescue operations. It reportedly took about an hour of strenuous efforts to extricate the trapped victims. A crane was eventually employed to move the damaged vehicle, allowing authorities to recover the bodies of the deceased.

Reaction and Ongoing Investigation

In the wake of this heartbreaking incident, the Bihar Police department expressed profound sorrow over the loss of three of its officers. The news has sent shockwaves through the organisation, with many personnel struggling to come to terms with the sudden demise of their colleagues. Families of the deceased officers are reportedly in a state of inconsolable grief.

Senior police officials, including Begusarai Superintendent of Police Manish Kumar and Sadar DSP Anand Pandey, rapidly arrived at the accident site and the hospital to oversee the situation. Authorities from Madhepura police have also been informed about the accident for further investigation.

Following appropriate post-mortem procedures, the bodies were handed over to the families for last rites. The police have since seized both the wrecked car and the truck involved in the crash, initiating a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event. While initial inquiries suggest that speed may be the main factor, the investigation will explore all potential contributing factors.
