Flirting to Deflect? Donald Trump Dodges Question on Iran Crisis During Interview

The CSR Journal Magazine

During a live segment, U.S. President Donald Trump appeared to deflect a question regarding the humanitarian situation in Iran by complimenting Fox News host Dana Perino. The interaction unfolded as Perino expressed concern over the lack of information from Iran, particularly questioning whether the civilian population had access to essential resources such as drinking water and food. She voiced her alarm over the ongoing internet shutdowns and broader issues impacting the Iranian populace, asking, “Do they have drinking water? Do they have food right now?”

Rather than addressing Perino’s inquiries directly, Trump reminisced about a previous encounter between them. “Do you remember when we had lunch years ago at Trump Tower? You have not changed. You may be even better looking,” he said. He humorously noted that such compliments could jeopardize his political career, stating, “you’re not allowed to say a woman’s beautiful anymore.” This exchange elicited smiles and light laughter from the other panelists present during the discussion.

Eventually, Trump made an attempt to return to the topic at hand but continued to avoid specific answers regarding the availability of food and water for the Iranian people. Instead, he focused on the dangers faced by Iranians who dare to protest against their government. “They are petrified, because one side has guns, and what they do is they shoot you,” he remarked, adding that the fear of being killed serves as a significant deterrent to public dissent.

This moment reflects a pattern in Trump’s interactions with media figures. While he has occasionally complimented reporters he favors, he has also made disparaging remarks about others. In previous instances, he referred to Katie Rogers from The New York Times as “ugly” and admonished Bloomberg’s Catherine Lucey to “be quiet,” using a derogatory term during a different conversation.
