FIH Hockey Nations Cup Sees Debut of Uruguay Women, USA Men After Withdrawals

The Uruguay women’s team and the USA men’s team are set to make their debut in the FIH Hockey Nations Cup in 2026. This development comes after Scotland’s women’s team and Wales’ men’s team announced their withdrawal from the tournament.

Women’s Nations Cup Venue and Dates

The Women’s Nations Cup is scheduled to be held in Auckland, New Zealand, from June 15 to June 21. The lineup for this competition now includes a diverse range of teams, namely the host nation New Zealand, the USA, Japan, Korea, Chile, and Uruguay. Additionally, France will participate after being promoted from the FIH Hockey Nations Cup 2, alongside India, which has been relegated from the 2024-25 season of the FIH Hockey Pro League.

Men’s Nations Cup Details

The Men’s Nations Cup will take place in Cape Town, South Africa, from June 11 to June 20. The event will feature several highly ranked teams, including South Africa, New Zealand, France, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, and the USA. Scotland has also been promoted from the FIH Hockey Nations Cup 2, while Ireland will be competing after being relegated from the 2024-25 FIH Hockey Pro League season.

Background on the FIH Hockey Nations Cup

Introduced in 2021, the FIH Hockey Nations Cup serves as a premier competition for top teams that are not participating in the FIH Hockey Pro League. The winning team gains promotion to the Hockey Pro League in the following season. India, Spain, and New Zealand have emerged victorious in the first three editions of the women’s competition. On the men’s side, South Africa was the winner of the inaugural tournament, followed by consecutive victories for the New Zealand men’s team.
