Dilip Ghosh Claims Mamata Banerjee Feels Insecure Ahead of West Bengal Assembly Elections

The CSR Journal Magazine

Dilip Ghosh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate contesting from Kharagpur Sadar, leveled accusations against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, stating that she appears to be fearful as the Assembly elections approach. In remarks made in Kharagpur, Ghosh emphasized that Banerjee’s support base is diminishing, asserting that “fake voters” who once supported her are no longer involved, and that many of her trusted officials have been dismissed from their positions.

Upcoming Election Schedule

The Assembly elections in West Bengal are planned to occur in two phases. The first phase is set for April 23, followed by the second phase on April 29. The counting of votes is scheduled for May 4. This timeline is significant as parties ramp up their campaigns and sharpen their critiques against opponents.

TMC Responds to Criticisms from the BJP

In response to the BJP’s allegations, the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) has launched its own criticisms. The party has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of misusing national platforms to discredit West Bengal and its government. TMC highlighted that Modi is not only making comments at political rallies but is extending his criticisms to national television as well.

Controversies Surrounding Government Policies

The TMC’s statement elaborated on their contention that the Prime Minister’s claims regarding the state government’s implementation of national schemes are unfounded. The party emphasized that West Bengal operates its own health initiative, the Swasthya Sathi scheme, which reportedly benefits approximately 8.51 crore individuals across 2.45 crore families. This has raised questions about the appropriateness of adopting the centrally funded Ayushman Bharat scheme, which they argue has stricter eligibility criteria.

Concerns Over Fund Allocation

Further, the TMC raised concerns regarding housing funds, specifically addressing an alleged withholding of ₹24,275 crore under the Awas Yojana. The party argues that this delay has resulted in over 12 lakh families being deprived of housing. They called attention to the lack of transparency from the central government and questioned the absence of a white paper on fund allocation to West Bengal, particularly since the BJP’s defeat in the state in 2021.

Electoral Tensions Rising in West Bengal

The verbal sparring between the BJP and TMC illustrates the heightened tensions in West Bengal’s political landscape as the Assembly elections loom. With accusations flying and each party attempting to solidify their base, the electoral contest is shaping up to be a heated affair.
