The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has shared a sense of optimism regarding India’s potential tour to Bangladesh for a six-match white-ball series during the 2026-27 season. This announcement follows discussions described as fruitful between the BCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), as reported by Cricinfo. The proposed series would include three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).

The initial plan for India’s tour was set for August 2025, but it was postponed to September 2026 due to unresolved issues between the two boards earlier this year. In a statement made on Monday, BCB President Tamim Iqbal informed reporters that ongoing talks have been positive. “All I can tell you is that both the cricket boards are in discussion. It is a fruitful talk, and I am hopeful this will happen,” Iqbal mentioned, as quoted by Cricinfo.

Potential Rescheduling for Early Next Year

According to further reports from Cricinfo, the BCB has received an encouraging response from the BCCI regarding the tour, which is now likely to take place in early 2024. A source from the BCCI indicated to ANI that the BCB is looking for a suitable window at the start of next year, owing to uncertainties regarding the original September schedule. “The India-Bangladesh series is likely to be held in January. Discussions with the government are still ongoing, while the BCB is now seeking a window at the beginning of next year,” the BCCI source stated.

Originally, India was slated to tour Bangladesh in August 2025, and the series was later postponed to September 2026. The BCB had announced in January that the series would feature three ODIs and three T20Is across key locations such as Dhaka and Chattogram. However, the BCCI has not yet made any official declarations concerning the rescheduling of the tour.

Deteriorating Relations Over the Past Year

The relationship between the BCB and BCCI saw significant strain earlier in the year following the Kolkata Knight Riders’ decision to release Bangladesh all-rounder Mustafizur Rahman from their Indian Premier League (IPL) squad. The situation escalated further when the Aminul Islam-led BCB decided against sending its team to the T20 World Cup co-hosted by India. This decision contributed to growing tensions between the two cricket boards.

Despite these challenges, recent developments suggest an improvement in relations. Since taking over as BCB president, Tamim Iqbal has made efforts to mend ties with the BCCI. Earlier this month, he made a visit to India and toured the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. This visit has been interpreted as a positive sign, indicating a potential thaw in the historically complicated dynamics between the two boards.

As discussions continue regarding the rescheduling of the series, both boards appear committed to resolving any outstanding issues, paving the way for a significant cricketing event that would engage fans in both nations. The outcome of these talks may have important implications for future cricketing relations between Bangladesh and India, both on and off the field.
