India Name 26-Member Squad For Panama, Brazil And Uruguay Friendlies

The CSR Journal Magazine

India are set for a demanding September-October FIFA international window, with head coach Khalid Jamil naming a 26-member squad for friendlies against Panama, Brazil and Uruguay. All three opponents featured at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, giving the Blue Tigers a rare opportunity to test themselves against elite international opposition.

India will begin the run against Panama on September 26 at Bengaluru’s Sree Kanteerava Stadium. The Central American side, ranked 44th in the world, will provide a strong opening challenge and the fixture will also mark the first meeting between India and Panama.

Panama To Provide Opening Test

Jamil’s squad will assemble in Bengaluru from September 14, giving the players almost two weeks to train together before the Panama fixture.

Panama’s top-50 FIFA ranking adds further weight to the opening match, with the fixture expected to offer India an early assessment against a team that competed at the 2026 World Cup.

Following the Panama game, the Indian team will travel to Kolkata on September 28 for two high-profile encounters at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan.

Brazil And Uruguay Await In Kolkata

India will face five-time world champions Brazil on October 3 in Kolkata. Three days later, on October 6, the Blue Tigers will take on two-time world champions Uruguay at the same venue.

Both Brazil and Uruguay were part of the 2026 World Cup, making the back-to-back Kolkata fixtures particularly demanding for Jamil’s side.

The three matches will give India an opportunity to measure themselves against teams with significantly greater international pedigree. They will also allow Jamil to assess the squad’s performance against opposition operating at World Cup level.

With India rarely facing teams of Brazil and Uruguay’s stature, the fixtures are expected to provide the players with valuable international exposure while giving the coaching staff a clearer understanding of the team’s current level.

26-Member India Squad Announced

Jamil has selected four goalkeepers, eight defenders, eight midfielders and six forwards for the three-match window. The squad includes experienced players such as Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Anirudh Thapa, Anwar Ali and Manvir Singh.

Ryan Williams has also been included among the attacking options as India prepare for the demanding run of fixtures.

Goalkeepers: Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Albino Gomes, Som Kumar, Prabhsukhan Singh Gill.

Defenders: Akash Mishra, Abhishek Singh Tekcham, Bijoy Varghese, Anwar Ali, Jay Gupta, Hmingthanmawia Ralte, Pramveer, Ricky Meetei Haobam.

Midfielders: Macarton Nickson, Ashique Kuruniyan, Farukh Choudhary, Anirudh Thapa, Lalengmawia Ralte, Sahal Abdul Samad, Mohammed Sanan, Ricky Shabong.

Forwards: Irfan Yadwad, Edmund Lalrindika, Rahim Ali, Manvir Singh, Ryan Williams, Vikram Partap Singh.

India’s September-October Fixture List

India will open their FIFA window against Panama at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on September 26.

The Blue Tigers will then face Brazil at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on October 3, before completing the international window against Uruguay at the same venue on October 6.

The schedule forms part of a broader effort to give India greater exposure against high-quality international opposition. The Panama fixture is being viewed as an important test ahead of the Brazil encounter, while the subsequent meeting with Uruguay will provide another opportunity to assess India’s progress against World Cup-calibre teams.
