Upon removing the robe, Osaka unveiled a black ensemble and sported cornrows, a hairstyle famously associated with Iverson during his illustrious career with the Philadelphia 76ers. This bold yet stylish appearance highlights her unique approach to fashion in the realm of sport.

Osaka’s stylish entrance was followed by a competitive match against Zakharova, where she secured a victory in straight sets as she commenced her pursuit of a third US Open title. The 28-year-old demonstrated resilience during the match, managing to establish early leads before Zakharova challenged her, managing to force two tiebreaks.

The match lasted just over two hours, with Osaka ultimately winning the first-set tiebreak 8-6 on her third set point and closing out the second with a 7-3 tiebreak score. This performance showcases her ability to maintain focus under pressure, which is crucial for success in high-stakes tournaments.

Previously, Osaka won the US Open in 2018 and 2020. She arrived with a sense of readiness, stating, “I do feel like I’ve played a lot of matches. Honestly, this is the surface that I’m most comfortable with.” Her conviction is evident as she continues her journey in the tournament.
