Dilip Ghosh Labels TMC as “Drama Party,” Questions Mamata Banerjee’s Leadership

The CSR Journal Magazine

Dilip Ghosh, a minister in West Bengal, has publicly criticised the Trinamool Congress (TMC), referring to the party as a “circus party”. His comments were made in light of recent developments within the organisation and ongoing discussions regarding the leadership of Mamata Banerjee. Ghosh expressed scepticism about the party’s internal decision-making, suggesting that its troubles do not concern the general public.

During an interview with ANI, Ghosh questioned who had the authority to appoint or remove Banerjee from her leadership position. He remarked, “The drama is still ongoing,” implying that the TMC’s current state is somewhat chaotic. Ghosh emphasised that these issues are not pertinent to the citizens of Bengal and are more of a spectacle.

In his comments, Ghosh also noted that the party’s internal strife is overshadowing its responsibilities to the public. He stated that issues within the TMC do not hold any significant weight for the people and suggested that the focus should be redirected towards governance rather than internal conflict.

Government Welfare and Minority Affairs Budget

Responding to criticisms from TMC regarding alleged reductions in the budget allocated for the Minority Affairs Department, Ghosh asserted that the state government serves all segments of society. He stressed that the government should be viewed as inclusive, stating, “This is not a minority government. This is a government for society.” His statement aimed to convey a message of unity and development among all communities in West Bengal.

Ghosh appealed to Muslims in the state, cautioning them against aligning with what he described as “thieves”. He warned that failing to heed this advice could lead to regrettable conditions akin to those found in Bangladesh. He insisted that the current government is dedicated to serving the broader population, countering TMC’s claims of inadequacy.

Drawing a comparison between the TMC and the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ghosh stated that welfare benefits under the latter are directly reaching citizens. He claimed that “TMC has given people nothing,” in contrast to his party, which he argues facilitates access to benefits conveniently from home.

Public Sentiment and Recent Developments in TMC

Ghosh also commented on the shifting public sentiment towards the TMC, urging citizens to communicate their discontent to the party. He suggested that the party has had sufficient time to demonstrate its capabilities and should now allow others to take charge. Ghosh conveyed that current public perceptions of the TMC reflect accumulated dissatisfaction.

Amidst these criticisms, developments have occurred within the TMC itself. Ritabrata Banerjee, the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, announced the appointment of Arup Roy as the new chairperson of the party. This decision follows reports of dissent among at least fifty-eight TMC MLAs expressing concerns about party leadership and direction.

Additionally, Banerjee has encouraged former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to assume a mentorship role within the party. This recommendation reflects a desire to reorganise leadership dynamics and possibly stabilise the party amidst internal challenges, highlighting the urgency of addressing the inter-party discord.
