Dhurandhar 2 Crosses ₹1,791 Crore in 50 Days, Becomes India’s Second Highest-Grossing Film

The CSR Journal Magazine

Fifty days since its release, Dhurandhar: The Revenge continues to attract audiences to theatres, solidifying its position as one of the largest Indian films in history. Data from Sacnilk shows the film was featured in 721 screenings across India on its fiftieth day. This ongoing interest contributed an additional Rs 0.36 crore to its total, bringing its Indian nett collection to Rs 1,140.53 crore and its domestic gross to Rs 1,365.03 crore.

Notably, earlier in the week, the film surpassed the significant milestone of overtaking Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’s global earnings of Rs 1,788.06 crore on its forty-sixth day. This achievement made Dhurandhar 2 the second highest-grossing Indian film worldwide, following Dangal. By day fifty, the film’s worldwide gross reached Rs 1,791.55 crore, of which Rs 426.35 crore came from international markets.

The film’s sustained performance has been particularly impressive, maintaining strong attendance through the weeks following its release. Following a robust opening week that generated Rs 674.17 crore, Dhurandhar 2 experienced steady week-by-week earnings instead of the typical post-release decline observed in many recent high-budget films.

Record-Breaking Achievements and Milestones

Over its theatrical run, Dhurandhar 2 has set multiple records. It became the first Hindi film to achieve a nett collection of over Rs 1,000 crore in India. Furthermore, it consistently surpassed Rs 40 crore in nett collections for eleven consecutive days. The film reached the Rs 500 crore milestone within just six days and crossed the Rs 1,000 crore mark globally within a week—a remarkable pace for a Hindi film.

In terms of single-day performances, Dhurandhar 2 recorded Rs 100 crore nett in India on two separate occasions, a feat no other Hindi film has accomplished. Its performance overseas further contributed to its success, making it the highest-grossing Indian film worldwide, excluding figures from China and the Gulf regions. In Australia, the film earned over A$8 million, becoming the top Indian film in that market, while in the United Kingdom, it ranked as the highest-grossing Hindi film with earnings exceeding £4.39 million.

The success of Dhurandhar 2 has also positively impacted the franchise, with the two films in the series collectively surpassing Rs 3,100 crore in worldwide gross—marking the first instance of an Indian film duology achieving this milestone.

Audience Engagement and Factors Influencing Success

In addition to impressive box office figures, the film has seen significant audience engagement during its theatrical run, with over 1.82 crore tickets sold via BookMyShow. Audiences at urban multiplexes continued to attend screenings, even in the later weeks.

Interestingly, despite challenges that could have limited its reach, such as an A-rating, extended runtime, and a narrative-driven approach, these elements have arguably bolstered its status as a major theatrical event. Instead of being treated as a typical commercial release, the film managed to resonate with audiences gradually.

While many high-profile releases falter after the initial weeks, Aditya Dhar’s sequel has maintained its visibility and audience interest for nearly two months. Following its impressive 50-day run, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge has emerged as a defining success in recent Hindi cinema’s box office records.
