The CSR Journal Magazine

The Namo Yamuna Cruise Safari is poised to become a reality in Delhi, marking a significant development in river tourism for the city. This initiative is expected to commence operations in November 2026, providing a new avenue for local residents and tourists to explore the Yamuna River. The project has garnered attention as Delhiites previously could not envision such a venture taking place in their city.

On October 26, 2026, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra and other officials, conducted an inspection of the cruise facilities and participated in a trial ride. This event was part of the preparations leading up to the official launch of the cruise service. According to a statement from the government, trial runs are anticipated to last for about a week, paving the way for the inauguration.

Chief Minister Gupta stated that the aim is to inaugurate the cruise service before the Chhath Mahaparv festival. She highlighted that the initiative would create a picturesque picnic spot for families, with a strong emphasis on environmental cleanliness and the preservation of the Yamuna River.

Details of the Cruise Operations

The Namo Yamuna Cruise Safari will operate along a six-kilometre stretch between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur. Each round trip is expected to take approximately 40 minutes, accommodating up to 30 passengers per boat. The boats will be equipped with essential safety features, including life jackets, an announcement system, and bio-toilets designed to prevent waste discharge into the river.

Under the proposed operating schedule, the service will run at least four trips daily. The operator will be responsible for ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers, crew members, and other users of the river. This initiative aims not only to enhance recreational options for families but also to promote tourism and support local businesses.

In addition to the cruise service, the government plans to develop the surrounding area into a family-friendly picnic destination. Proposed amenities include a restaurant, a food park, a children’s play area, a musical fountain, and facilities for water sports. This comprehensive development aims to create a vibrant recreational hub while simultaneously generating employment opportunities in the region.

Ticket Pricing and Availability

The entry fee for the premises has been set at Rs 50, while the fare for a complete cruise trip is expected to be Rs 500. Reports indicate that tickets will be available for purchase online through the Delhi Tourism website. However, the final confirmation regarding the sailing date and cruise fare is still pending.

As the launch date approaches, the government is focused on ensuring that all safety measures are in place and that the service meets the expectations of the public. The initiative is viewed as a significant step towards enhancing the tourism landscape in Delhi, providing residents with a unique way to experience the Yamuna River.

With the Namo Yamuna Cruise Safari, Delhi aims to embrace the growing trend of cruise travel, offering a new recreational option for families and individuals alike. As preparations continue, anticipation builds for what could become a popular attraction in the capital city.
