Apple has introduced its latest iPad mini in India, featuring significant enhancements including a larger OLED display, improved processing power, and increased durability against water and dust. The new model maintains the compact design characteristic of the iPad mini while offering upgrades in various aspects such as screen quality, performance, camera capabilities, and wireless connectivity options.

The starting price for the iPad mini is set at Rs 82,900 for the 128GB storage variant, ensuring that the entry-level model remains below Rs 90,000. The 256GB version is priced at Rs 94,900, while the high-end 512GB variant is available for Rs 1,18,900. Pre-orders for the device will commence at 10:40 pm IST on October 28, with official sales scheduled to begin on November 6. Customers can choose between midnight and starlight finishes for their devices.

Display and Processing Enhancements

One of the standout features of the new iPad mini is its 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display. Apple has managed to increase the screen size while reducing the bezels by 24 per cent, maintaining the tablet’s overall dimensions. The OLED technology promises richer blacks, more vibrant colours, and an impressive contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1. According to Apple, the display can achieve peak brightness levels of up to 1,200 nits, which is more than double that of the previous generation.

Additionally, buyers have the option to select a nano-texture display designed to minimise glare in bright environments. The new iPad mini is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip, which is manufactured using a 2-nanometre process. Apple claims that this processor offers up to 60 per cent faster multithreaded CPU performance, 2.7 times improved graphics performance, and 4.5 times faster AI performance compared to its predecessor. The tablet is also notably thin at 5.4mm and carries an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance, enhancing its suitability for outdoor use.

Camera, Connectivity, and AI Features

The iPad mini features a 12-megapixel front camera, now positioned at the landscape edge, which facilitates more convenient video calls and online meetings when the device is held horizontally. The rear camera, also 12 megapixels, supports 4K video recording at up to 60 frames per second and is equipped with an Adaptive True Tone flash for improved lighting.

In terms of audio, the tablet benefits from Apple’s Acoustic Display system, which utilises specially designed speakers to provide enhanced sound quality and bass. Connectivity options have also been upgraded, with support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread via Apple’s N1 wireless networking chip. Cellular models are equipped with the C2 modem, reportedly enabling up to 50 per cent faster cellular data speeds compared to the previous generation.

The new iPad mini operates on iPadOS 27 and includes support for Apple’s next-generation intelligence features and Siri AI. These advancements aim to assist users in finding information, comprehending content displayed on the screen, and answering queries, all while ensuring user privacy through on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute.

For accessories, the tablet is compatible with both the Apple Pencil Pro and the standard Apple Pencil (USB-C). Additionally, Apple has launched a new Smart Folio cover, which is sold separately, to enhance the user experience.
