The Ballon d’Or winners will be revealed on Monday, October 26, 2026, during a ceremony at the London Palladium. This event marks a significant milestone as it is the first time the awards will be held in London and the first occasion since 2015 that the ceremony takes place outside France.

The event is set to commence at 8 pm GMT, which translates to 1.30 am IST on Tuesday, October 27, for viewers in India. This year’s ceremony celebrates the 70th anniversary of the Ballon d’Or, which was first awarded by France Football in 1956. The women’s Ballon d’Or was introduced later, in 2018. The event promises to be a historic occasion, showcasing the best talents in football.

For those interested in watching the ceremony live, it is expected to be streamed on DAZN. However, specific broadcast details for Indian viewers have yet to be confirmed, and it is advisable to check the official Ballon d’Or and DAZN platforms for updates prior to the event.

Leading Contenders for the Men’s Ballon d’Or

The men’s Ballon d’Or features several strong contenders, including Lamine Yamal, Kylian Mbappe, and Harry Kane. Yamal is seeking his first senior Ballon d’Or after being awarded the best young player title for the past two years, thanks to his impressive performances with both Barcelona and the Spanish national team.

Kylian Mbappe, who won the 2018 World Cup at just 19 years old, remains a top contender following another remarkable season. Despite finishing seventh in the previous year’s voting, his individual skills keep him in the running, although the absence of major team trophies during the eligibility period may impact his chances.

Harry Kane has also made a compelling case for the award through his prolific goalscoring with Bayern Munich. He recently became the fastest player to achieve 100 Bundesliga goals, accomplishing this feat in just 98 matches. His record-breaking achievements have solidified his position among the frontrunners for this prestigious honour.

Contenders for Women’s Ballon d’Or

In the women’s category, Alexia Putellas is a notable contender for her third Ballon d’Or after contributing significantly to Barcelona’s success, including their Champions League victory. Aitana Bonmati, the three-time defending champion, will not be competing due to a leg injury sustained in December, ensuring a new winner will be crowned. Other strong candidates include Khadija Shaw from Manchester City and Claudia Pina from Barcelona.

The voting for the Ballon d’Or involves journalists from FIFA’s top 100-ranked nations, who evaluate players based on individual performances, team success, and sportsmanship. Each journalist ranks ten players from a list of thirty nominees, with points awarded based on their rankings. In the event of a tie, the number of first-place votes is considered first, followed by second-place votes, and so on, until a winner is determined.

Significance of the 2026 Ballon d’Or Ceremony

The 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony is particularly significant, commemorating its 70th anniversary and representing a shift in the landscape of football awards. With emerging talents like Yamal, Mbappe, and Kane vying for the men’s prize, and a new champion guaranteed in the women’s category, the event signals a transition from the era dominated by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

This year’s ceremony not only celebrates individual achievements but also highlights the evolution of football, as new players step into the limelight. The choice of London as the host city adds to the occasion’s importance, marking a historic moment for one of football’s most prestigious awards. Overall, the Ballon d’Or 2026 ceremony promises to be a landmark event, showcasing the best in football while celebrating the rich history and future of the sport.
