HCLTech Inaugurates Two Development Centres in India to Support Engineering

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Indian IT services company HCL Technologies, in collaboration with Rapidus Corporation, inaugurated two development centres in India on Monday. These centres are strategically located in Bengaluru and Hubli, aiming to address the increasing semiconductor engineering demands of the Japanese chipmaker. The initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance capabilities in semiconductor technology and engineering.

Capabilities Offered by HCLTech

The newly established centres will leverage HCLTech’s extensive engineering expertise to provide a variety of services to Rapidus. These services include mask design, design infrastructure, process design kit development, design technology co-optimisation, and layout design. Such capabilities are vital for the advancement of semiconductor technologies, which are expected to play a crucial role in future innovations.

In addition to these technical services, HCLTech is set to collaborate with Rapidus in developing a robust pipeline of engineering talent from India. This initiative aims to meet the evolving workforce requirements of Rapidus in Japan, ensuring that the company has access to skilled professionals in semiconductor engineering.

Atsuyoshi Koike, the Representative Director and CEO of Rapidus Corporation, expressed optimism regarding the partnership. He stated that through this collaboration with HCLTech, Rapidus anticipates tapping into India’s expanding pool of semiconductor engineering talent. The establishment of dedicated development capabilities is expected to complement Rapidus’ operations in Japan, facilitating the growth of technical expertise and resources necessary for achieving long-term objectives.

Strategic Collaboration Between India and Japan

The partnership between HCLTech and Rapidus signifies a growing strategic collaboration between India and Japan, particularly in the field of semiconductor technology. C Vijayakumar, CEO and Managing Director of HCLTech, remarked that advanced semiconductors will define the technological landscape of the next decade. He highlighted that this partnership aligns Rapidus’ ambitions in next-generation semiconductor development with HCLTech’s engineering capabilities.

This collaboration aims to accelerate the adoption of chip technologies, reduce time-to-market for new products, and lay the groundwork for the next era of semiconductor innovation. The combined efforts of both companies are expected to enhance the semiconductor ecosystem, benefiting both nations as they work together to advance technology.

As the demand for advanced semiconductors continues to rise globally, the establishment of these development centres is a timely response to the industry’s needs. By fostering innovation and talent development, HCLTech and Rapidus are positioning themselves to play a significant role in the future of semiconductor engineering.
