Five Easy Methods to Store Heavy Winter Outfits in Your Wardrobe

The CSR Journal Magazine

The weather is gradually getting colder, and most people have begun taking out their winter clothes. If you haven’t planned how to store your winter garments properly, your wardrobe and drawers are likely to become disorganized. Inadequate storage can lead to items getting lost or deteriorating prematurely. Therefore, you should avoid taking clothes directly from under the bed (or other storage areas) and wearing them immediately.

Sorting Your Clothes

Before storing your winter wear, it is essential to decide which items are truly worth keeping. People often keep clothes in their closets that they never actually wear. A study has shown that 80 percent of your clothes are worn only 20 percent of the time. So, start by sorting through your items to determine which ones are actually necessary.

Organizing Clothes in the Wardrobe

Heavy winter garments should not be stacked one on top of another; doing so can cause the entire pile to collapse when you try to retrieve a single item. Similarly, stuffing clothes into a space is not a good practice. Winter wear should be organized into separate sections—ideally, keeping sweaters, jackets, and shawls apart. This prevents fibers from sweaters from sticking to jackets and makes it easier to access specific items.

Avoid Hanging Sweaters

It is not advisable to hang wool sweaters in your wardrobe, as the weight can cause the shoulders to stretch out, leaving the garment looking misshapen. Use hangers only for jackets or shawls, though even then, avoid leaving them hanging for extended periods. Long coats and jackets, however, can be hung to prevent them from developing creases.

Folding Jackets Correctly

Heavy winter jackets should be folded neatly and placed to the side within your wardrobe. This helps maintain both the shape and the fabric of the jacket. Since the methods for washing and storing jackets differ significantly from those for sweaters, they should be stored appropriately in your wardrobe.

Storing smaller items in a storage box

During winter, smaller items like socks, mufflers, scarves, and caps are often hard to find when needed. It is best to keep these together in a storage box, which can be placed to one side inside your cupboard. Whenever you put your clothes away, ensure that these smaller winter accessories are kept in this designated box. This makes them easy to locate and helps preserve the quality of the fabric, keeping them looking new for years.

Caring for winter clothing

Proper care for winter garments is essential. They should be washed periodically and stored correctly. Leaving clothes dirty can shorten their lifespan; therefore, whenever you take them out, check their condition and wash them if necessary.

Keeping your wardrobe organized

Maintaining an organized wardrobe is also important. Storing your clothes properly not only keeps your cupboard neat and tidy but also makes it easier to find what you need when you need it. So, store your winter clothing correctly and keep your wardrobe well-organized.
