The Delhi Police have recovered gold and silver jewellery valued at Rs 12.5 lakh that a family had reserved for their six-year-old daughter’s spine surgery at AIIMS. The recovery has brought relief to the family, who felt devastated following the theft of their savings, which they had accumulated over many years.
The stolen jewellery represented the family’s lifetime savings, as they had sold significant assets to gather the funds for their child’s medical treatment. Following the incident, they had even contemplated mortgaging their house in desperation to continue with the required surgery.
The incident was reported to the Keshav Puram police station on July 22 after burglars allegedly broke a window pane of the family’s residence in the Ganeshpura area and absconded with the valuables.
Investigation and Arrest of Suspect
The arrested individual has been identified as Abhishek alias Raje, a 25-year-old resident of Wazirpur. According to police records, he has been involved in two previous burglary cases. During interrogation, he revealed the location where the stolen items were hidden.
Following the suspect’s confession, police were able to recover the jewellery and return it to the family. This recovery significantly alleviated the financial burden that had been looming over the family due to the theft.
