Delhi Police Arrest Eight Linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba Module After Pro-Burhan Wani Posters Surface

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Special Cell of Delhi Police announced the dismantling of a major terror module linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) following the emergence of posters glorifying the late Burhan Wani in various locations across the National Capital Region. On Sunday, officials confirmed the apprehension of eight suspects in simultaneous raids conducted in Kolkata, West Bengal, and Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu. Authorities revealed that seven of the detained individuals are Bangladeshi nationals who had reportedly entered India illegally and obtained Indian identity documents to conceal their true identities.

Discovery of Posters

The investigation into the matter began on February 8, 2026, when Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel notified police regarding the appearance of pro-Pakistan and pro-terror posters at Janpath Metro Station and its surrounding areas. Additional similar posters were later identified at various other spots in Delhi. These posters featured images of Burhan Wani and included slogans such as “India Stop Genocide & Free Kashmir,” alongside Urdu phrases advocating for Pakistan.

Investigation Process

An FIR was subsequently lodged at the Supreme Court Metro Police Station under relevant sections of the BNS and the DPDP Act. Due to the sensitive nature of the case, the investigation was subsequently handed over to the Special Cell/National Investigation Agency. During the inquiry, the Special Cell utilized both technical and human intelligence to monitor the activities of the suspects in Delhi and Gurugram.

Raids and Recoveries

During questioning, Umar Faruk revealed that he was introduced to the group’s handler, Shabir Ahmad Lone, also known as Raja or Kashmiri, in March 2025 and underwent indoctrination. Lone, who resides in Kangan, Jammu & Kashmir, is currently believed to be based in Bangladesh and is accused of instructing the operatives to facilitate LeT activities within India. Authorities disclosed that the module had performed reconnaissance on key locations and was in the process of acquiring weapons through local contacts.

Timeline of Activities

Investigators found that the suspects traveled to Delhi via Patna on February 6, posted materials at approximately ten locations, recorded videos of their actions as evidence, and transmitted this footage to their handler before returning to Kolkata. Officials stated that Lone, a trained LeT militant, had previously been arrested by the Special Cell in 2007 when a significant cache of arms and ammunition was recovered. His current activities hint at attempts to revive sleeper cells in India using Bangladeshi recruits.

Ongoing Investigations

The investigation remains active as law enforcement continues to explore further links and possible connections associated with the implicated individuals and the broader network they are believed to be part of.
