The CSR Journal Magazine

Mission Kayakalp has been initiated by the Delhi government as a strategic programme aimed at upgrading the infrastructure of government schools across the capital. The initiative focuses on refreshing classrooms, renovating school buildings, modernising science laboratories, providing access to clean drinking water, and improving general campus facilities. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasised that this programme aspires to transform these educational institutions into modern and hygienic learning environments.

Gupta elaborated that the aim is to create safer and more inclusive spaces that go beyond mere educational functions. The initiative seeks to foster an environment conducive for students to excel academically, ensuring that schools serve as inspiring establishments for their educational journeys.

Role of Community in the Initiative

The successful implementation of Mission Kayakalp relies heavily on community involvement. Chief Minister Gupta highlighted that the initiative is being executed with the collaborative support of district administrations, the Education Department, corporate social responsibility (CSR) sectors, social organisations, market associations, and local communities. This active public participation is recognised as a significant catalyst for accelerating improvements in government school infrastructure throughout Delhi.

According to an official statement, the scope of Mission Kayakalp covers diverse infrastructural enhancements. These include structural repairs to school buildings, campus painting and whitewashing, waterproofing facilities, enhancing rooftop drainage, renovating toilet facilities, installing reverse osmosis (RO) plants and water coolers, modernising laboratories, creating inclusive spaces for children with special needs, and increasing the greenery surrounding school premises. Such comprehensive upgrades are intended to foster an enriching educational atmosphere.

Many initiatives under Mission Kayakalp, according to reports, have already been completed or are underway across various districts, contributing to improved educational environments for students.

Ongoing Upgrades Across Districts

According to an official statement, the transformative work associated with Mission Kayakalp is being carried out in school districts including North, South, West, North-East, and Outer North Delhi. Within the North district, selected institutions have experienced substantial renovations, such as the establishment of sensory parks for children with special needs, the installation of RO plants and water coolers, as well as the upgrading of physics laboratories.

In Mehrauli and Qutub Mehrauli, government schools have witnessed considerable enhancements, with repairs made to toilets, roofing, and damaged plastering. Additional improvements include repainting, the installation of water coolers, and efforts to increase greenery within school environments. Schools in West Delhi, notably in Mohan Garden and Janakpuri, are similarly undergoing upgrades that involve roof repairs, waterproofing initiatives, the installation of rainwater harvesting systems, electrical enhancements, and improved water facilities.

Furthermore, schools in Gokalpur and Shahdara continue to receive attention, with renovations that include fresh coats of paint, refurbished toilets, repairs to buildings, and upgraded library resources.

Improvements in Learning Environments

Chief Minister Gupta stated that the visible improvements resulting from Mission Kayakalp have replaced outdated and unsafe school infrastructure with modern and well-equipped learning environments. The government intends to persist in fortifying school infrastructure, ensuring that all students have access to modern and inclusive educational settings.

This ongoing commitment signifies the administration’s focus on fostering quality education through enhanced infrastructure. By prioritising student welfare, the initiative aims to create conducive learning environments essential for student development in the capital’s government schools.
