The Delhi government inaugurated a series of Atal Canteens across the national capital on Thursday, with the aim of providing affordable meals to approximately 70,000 individuals each day. The initiative was launched by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, alongside Delhi Minister Ashish Sood and Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena. These canteens are designed to alleviate food insecurity among residents in various parts of the city.

Support for Economically Weaker Sections

During the inauguration, Chief Minister Gupta expressed her excitement about the new initiative, stating that it fulfills the vision of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. She emphasized that the establishment of 70 Atal Canteens marks an important milestone for the government and the community. Gupta noted that these canteens will provide vital meals to those who might struggle to afford food, thereby enhancing the quality of life for many citizens.

Affordable Meal Pricing

Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena highlighted the affordability aspect of the Atal Canteens, mentioning that meals will be available for just Rs 5. He stated that this pricing structure will offer significant relief to laborers and economically disadvantaged sectors of the population. Saxena also mentioned that the 70 canteens inaugurated are just the beginning, with more facilities planned for the future to further support those in need.

Delhi Minister Ashish Sood discussed the broader implications of the Atal Canteen initiative, describing it as a commitment to public welfare rather than just policy implementation. He reiterated that the effort to provide meals is part of a larger mission driven by the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
