The CSR Journal Magazine

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the results of the Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate (CUET UG) 2026, concluding the anticipation for more than 11 lakh candidates who participated in this significant examination. This year, a total of 15,68,867 candidates registered, marking a notable increase compared to the previous year’s figures.

Of the registered candidates, 11,64,098 appeared for the exam, reflecting the growing acceptance of CUET as a streamlined admission process for higher education institutions. This consistent increase in participation indicates heightened confidence among students and universities in the national entrance examination framework.

CUET UG 2026 was conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) format from May 11 to May 31, with additional slots available on June 6 and June 7. This comprehensive approach allows for a wider accessibility, accommodating more candidates than in prior years.

Significant Rise in Registrations

The latest results from CUET UG highlight a remarkable surge in registrations, reflecting an increase of over 15 per cent from the previous year. In 2025, 13,54,699 candidates registered, which rose to 15,68,867 in 2026. Similarly, the number of candidates appearing for the exam also saw a rise from 10,71,735 to 11,64,098.

Among the candidates, male registrants numbered 7,94,257, while female candidates totalled 7,74,607, and three candidates identified as third-gender. The significant uptick in female representation suggests improved access to higher education and greater awareness regarding the examination process.

This year’s statistics highlight the examination’s appeal as a reliable gateway to higher education, strengthening the CUET’s position in India’s educational landscape.

Exceptional Achievements by Candidates

The CUET UG 2026 results showcased outstanding academic performances, with several candidates achieving exceptional scores. Notably, one candidate obtained a perfect 100 percentile across four subjects, illustrating the dedication and excellence of top performers.

According to NTA’s announcement, 22 candidates achieved a 100th percentile in three subjects, while 180 candidates secured the same in two subjects. Additionally, 3,214 candidates scored a 100 percentile in one subject. These statistics underscore the competitive nature of the exam and the high academic standards maintained by aspirants nationwide.

The top scorers have been identified based on their aggregate NTA scores across the five subjects. The leading candidate secured an impressive score of 1232.19, followed closely by another candidate with 1230.82. Such performances highlight the rigorous preparation undertaken by many candidates.

Implications for Future Admissions

With the results now made public, universities across India are expected to initiate their counselling and admission processes imminently. Candidates will utilise their CUET scores to apply for undergraduate programmes at central universities and various institutions accepting these scores.

The increased competitiveness and record participation levels suggest that admission cut-offs for popular courses may remain exceptionally high. This trend in CUET UG 2026 underlines its growing significance in shaping the higher education landscape in India.

As institutions advance towards the admission phase, the scores will play a crucial role in determining the educational opportunities available to lakhs of students aspiring to join the country’s top universities.
