Mumbai, India: Chalet Hotels Limited, owner, developer, asset manager, and operator of high-end hotels and resorts in India, participated in the 9th Hand Hygiene Day on May 5th, 2023, with multiple measures to raise awareness through the course of the week beginning from May 1st.
The key highlight of this initiative included the distribution of 200 hand sanitizer bottles to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) workers who support the hygiene efforts in the areas around the hotel.
The ‘HAI Hand Hygiene Day’ was launched by the ‘Hotel Association of India’ (HAI) on May 5th, 2014, to create public awareness about the importance of frequent washing of hands in promoting community wellbeing. As a member of the association, Chalet properties in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Khandala curated a special program to support the HAI initiative.
The properties sported awareness signages in washrooms and lobbies. A hand sanitizing video was played in the hotel lobby. All conferences on this day began with an awareness video, and sanitizer dispensers were placed at key touchpoints throughout. In addition to this, the guests arriving at the hotel by app-based cabs also received a hand sanitizer and a hand hygiene leaflet.
To raise awareness about hand hygiene amongst the hotel associates, an awareness board-making competition across all hotel departments was organized. A hand sanitizing video in the staff cafeteria was screened. Posters have also been placed at the associate areas, and an alarm has been set to remind chefs to regularly clean and sanitize their hands.
The hotels will also extend their efforts by educating vendors visiting the property on appropriate hand hygiene practices. These measures reflect Chalet Hotels’ unwavering commitment to promoting a safe and sustainable environment for all.
Adding to the highlight of the event, Dr. Kalpesh Bhalerao, Medical officer of Health, Public Health Department, P North Ward, BMC, said “As a responsible member of the community, we believe it is our duty to take proactive measures towards ensuring the health and safety of the people. We appreciate the efforts of Chalet Hotels Limited for the distribution of hand sanitizers to on-duty BMC workers who play a vital role in maintaining hygiene in the surrounding areas. Such initiatives by private companies play a crucial role in creating a healthy and safe environment for all.”
