CSR News: BD India and HOPE Foundation Collaborate to Enhance Skills of Young Adults

The CSR Journal Magazine

BD India has partnered with the HOPE Foundation to support young adults in gaining essential skills that will improve their employability. This collaboration is part of BD India’s broader commitment to corporate social responsibility, focusing on creating meaningful impacts within communities. Since its inception in 2018, the programme has enabled students in East Delhi to acquire skills in Tally operations and Nursing Assistant training.

The partnership has recently celebrated the graduation of 264 students from its eighth cohort. During a ceremony marking this occasion, the graduates received certificates and trophies, recognising their dedication and achievements in these skill-based courses. This event highlighted the tangible benefits of collaborative efforts in addressing youth unemployment and skills development in the region.

BD India and the HOPE Foundation plan to extend this partnership into a ninth year, with an ambitious goal of training 320 additional young adults. Apart from the ongoing courses, a new programme focusing on Advanced Excel and SQL will be introduced, diversifying the skill sets offered to participants.

Feedback from Leadership on the Partnership

Atul Grover, Managing Director of BD India/South Asia, expressed pride in the collaboration and emphasised its importance for young people’s futures. He noted, “Witnessing the journeys of students and the positive influence this programme has had on their confidence and employability is inspiring. As a responsible corporate entity, we acknowledge our role in fostering sustainable livelihoods.”

KS. Wungchipem (Apem), Director at the HOPE Foundation, affirmed that the partnership has been vital in equipping youth with the necessary skills for employment. He stated that the collaboration has truly enhanced opportunities for individuals, aiding them in developing practical skills and gaining industry exposure. Over the past eight years, more than 2,200 young individuals have benefited from the training, and over 1,750 of these participants have secured employment.

The focus of the training includes two main courses: Nursing Assistant and Tally. These courses are designed to run concurrently over a span of three months. Eligibility for the programmes requires students to have completed their tenth grade and demonstrate a financial need. Participants also receive training in basic English speaking and essential life skills, alongside practical sessions. Nursing Assistant trainees are provided with an additional six months of on-the-job training in recognised healthcare institutions.

Impact and Overview of the Initiative

Since its launch, this initiative has notably served over 2,200 individuals, predominantly from underprivileged backgrounds, achieving an employment rate exceeding 80 per cent for its graduates, with a significant number being women. This success story underlines the effectiveness of skill-based training in enhancing the economic prospects of low-income groups.

BD India stands as one of the foremost global medical technology companies, committed to advancing health through significant contributions to medical research, diagnostics, and care delivery. The organisation’s efforts are centred on improving healthcare outcomes, reducing costs, and ensuring that quality care is accessible to a larger population.

By striving to create opportunities through this partnership, BD India and the HOPE Foundation continue to showcase how collaborative efforts can empower youth and foster long-term community benefits. The shared commitment towards sustainable skill development emphasises the potential of such initiatives to shape the future for many young adults in the region.
