CSR News: Blind Relief Association Unveils AI-Driven Jyoti Vision Glasses and Assistive Technologies

The Blind Relief Association (BRA) has launched a variety of AI-powered assistive technologies, prominently featuring the Wireless Jyoti AI Vision Glasses, in partnership with Torchit Electronics Pvt. Ltd. This initiative aims to improve accessibility, support inclusive education, and enable independent living for individuals with visual impairments.

The launch took place on July 7, in New Delhi, where the event was inaugurated by Manmeet Kaur Nanda, an IAS officer and Additional Secretary at the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. During her address, she stressed the pivotal role of assistive technology in fostering education, employment, mobility, and maintaining dignity for persons with disabilities.

Manmeet Kaur Nanda also affirmed the Government of India’s dedication to advancing AI-enabled assistive technologies through initiatives such as the upcoming Divyang Sahara Yojana, aligning with the vision of building a Purple Economy.

Showcasing Innovations in Assistive Technologies

Hunny Bhagchandani, Founder and Director of Torchit Electronics Pvt. Ltd., presented several innovative products, including the Wireless Jyoti AI Vision Glasses, Jyoti AI Web, and the Advanced Foldable Smart White Cane. His remarks underscored Torchit’s mission to empower those with disabilities by providing affordable and indigenous AI-driven assistive technologies.

Bhagchandani also introduced the EnableMart Experience and Resource Centre along with the EnableMart Assistive Technology Resource Book. He highlighted the significance of Talking and Tactile Books in enhancing inclusive education.

David, the Executive Secretary of the Blind Relief Association, welcomed attendees at the event, describing the collaboration with Torchit as a critical advancement toward making assistive technologies both affordable and accessible. He noted that this partnership would strengthen services related to inclusive education and rehabilitation.

Collaborative Efforts Towards Inclusion

Homiyar Mobedji, CEO of Torchit Foundation, addressed the evolving role of artificial intelligence in increasing accessibility to education, information, and daily living for individuals facing visual challenges. He emphasised the necessity for collaboration among technology innovators, educators, healthcare professionals, and civil society to cultivate an inclusive ecosystem.

Suraj Senjam, a Professor from the Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences at AIIMS, New Delhi, highlighted the urgent need for affordable ‘Make in India’ options in assistive technologies. He further elaborated on AIIMS’ partnership with Torchit to perform user evaluations aimed at refining AI-based solutions for individuals with visual impairments.

The event concluded with a live demonstration of the Wireless Jyoti AI Vision Glasses and Jyoti AI Web, reaffirming the collective commitment from the Government, healthcare sectors, technology innovators, and civil society to establish a more accessible and empowered India for all.
