CSK vs KKR, IPL 2026: Chennai Super Kings Beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 32 Runs

The CSR Journal Magazine

Chennai Super Kings secured a convincing 32-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 22 of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Chennai posted 192/5 in 20 overs before restricting Kolkata to 160/7, sealing a much-needed win in their campaign.

CSK Build Competitive Total with Strong Middle Order

Batting first after losing the toss, Chennai Super Kings produced a composed batting effort anchored by key contributions in the middle overs. Sanju Samson led the charge with a fluent 48 off 32 balls, setting the tone after a steady start. He found support from Dewald Brevis, who added 41 off 29 deliveries, ensuring momentum was maintained through the middle phase.

The partnership between Samson and Brevis proved crucial, stabilising the innings and allowing CSK to accelerate later. Contributions from the lower middle order ensured Chennai crossed the 190-mark, which appeared above par on a surface that offered some assistance to spinners. For Kolkata, Kartik Tyagi was the standout bowler with two wickets, while Sunil Narine kept things tight in the middle overs.

KKR Falter in Chase Despite Promising Moments

Chasing 193, Kolkata Knight Riders struggled to maintain consistency despite a few promising starts. The top order failed to convert starts into substantial scores, putting pressure on the middle order early in the innings.

Ramandeep Singh top-scored with 35 off 23 balls, while Rovman Powell chipped in with 31 off 22 deliveries. However, regular wickets prevented Kolkata from building any meaningful partnerships.

Chennai’s bowlers maintained control throughout the chase. Noor Ahmad was particularly effective, returning figures of 3/21 and breaking the backbone of the KKR batting line-up. Anshul Kamboj also impressed with two wickets, ensuring the required run rate kept climbing beyond reach.

Clinical Finish Boosts CSK Campaign

With wickets falling at regular intervals, Kolkata never truly threatened the target, eventually finishing at 160/7 in their 20 overs. Chennai’s disciplined bowling and sharp fielding ensured there were no late surprises.

Noor Ahmad was named Player of the Match for his decisive three-wicket haul that turned the game in CSK’s favour. The victory provides Chennai Super Kings with valuable momentum as they look to climb up the points table, while Kolkata Knight Riders will need to address their batting inconsistencies going forward.

The next IPL fixture will see Royal Challengers Bengaluru take on Lucknow Super Giants. Chennai Super Kings are set to face Kolkata Knight Riders again later in the tournament, while Kolkata will next take on another crucial opponent as they aim to register a turnaround in their season.
