Cricket West Indies to Hold 10-Day High-Performance ODI Camp in Antigua from May 21

The CSR Journal Magazine

Cricket West Indies (CWI) will conduct a ten-day high-performance training camp for senior men’s cricketers in Antigua from May 21 to May 31. This initiative marks the beginning of preparations for an important series of One-Day International (ODI) matches for the West Indies team, commonly referred to as the “Men in Maroon.” The training camp will take place at the Coolidge Cricket Ground and is aimed at boosting the team’s performance in the lead-up to their ODI series against Sri Lanka, scheduled in Jamaica.

Focus and Structure of the Camp

The camp is designed to elevate performance standards in various aspects of the game. Full-day training sessions will concentrate on technical skills, tactical execution, match simulations, physical conditioning, and enhancing team unity. The players will collaborate with CWI’s high-performance unit, which comprises coaching staff, medical professionals, sports scientists, and strength and conditioning experts.

Coaching Leadership

The program will be led by Head Coach Daren Sammy, alongside his support team. Notably, Ottis Gibson, the newly appointed fast-bowling consultant, will commence his role during this camp, contributing his expertise to the training regimen.

Investment in Future Performance

Miles Bascombe, the Director of Cricket, emphasized the importance of this initiative as the West Indies gear up for a challenging international schedule, particularly in pursuit of automatic qualification for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2027. Bascombe stated that this camp offers more than just preparation for a single series; it is a strategic investment in the team’s identity and consistency over the next 18 months. Each training session aims to strengthen white-ball strategies, improve performance under pressure, and position the West Indies favorably for World Cup qualification.

Emerging Talent Inclusion

An exciting aspect of the camp is the inclusion of Vitel Lawes, a promising talent from the West Indies Under-19 squad. His participation underscores CWI’s commitment to nurturing the future generation of regional cricketers. Pathway coach Nikita Miller will also join the camp, focusing on the development of the young spinner while supporting the senior squad’s spin-bowling strategies.

Availability of Players

It is noted that players participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) will not be available for this training camp due to their ongoing commitments to franchise cricket. The final lineup for the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, set to commence on June 3, will be announced in due course.

Participants of the High-Performance Camp

The players taking part in the high-performance camp include Shai Hope, Jewel Andrew, Ackeem Auguste, John Campbell, Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Justin Greaves, Amir Jangoo, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Vitel Lawes (development), Gudakesh Motie, Khary Pierre, Jayden Seales, and Shamar Springer.
