23 Covid-19 Cases Reported in Delhi: Health Ministry

A total of 23 active COVID-19 cases were reported in Delhi as of May 22, confirmed the Health Minister Dr. Pankaj Singh on Friday. The minister also stated that the health of all the patients is stable. “Two to three patients are admitted to private hospitals, while the others are being monitored… We will see if these patients are from Delhi or from outside Delhi. There is no need to panic because this strain is similar to influenza,” said Dr. Singh.

According to the Delhi Health Ministry, hospitals are being prepared to tackle any surge in cases. Dr. Pankaj told national media that, “We have had a conversation with the medical superintendent regarding preparations. Eight of our senior officials are visiting hospitals daily. Our hospitals are prepared with oxygen and oximeters.”

The state health department has also issued an order to all government and private hospitals to ensure adequate beds and supply of oxygen, antibiotics, and vaccines.

Covid Variant

According to the reports, the spread of Omicron-related variants has led to the rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in Asian countries, as is the case in the capital city, Delhi. The sub-lineages of the JN.1 variant (LF.7 and NB.1.8) have been confirmed by health authorities in Asian countries. JN.1, also known as the Pirola strain, is a descendant of BA.2.86 and belongs to the Omicron lineage.

India has seen a fresh surge in cases of COVID-19 in recent weeks. Most of these cases are being reported from Kerala, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu. Even though a majority of cases are mild and not associated with severity or mortality, calculated action from the authorities is necessary to prevent a further health emergency.
